my son is 3 and as long as I can remember he has shouted and screamed pretty much all the time. He has not normal voice its all shouting. I have tried to encourage him to talk quietly but he just doesnt get it. Its not just talking loudly it is really shouting!. Also he screams and squeaks high pitched noises for no reason, at the moment for example he is just standing in the middle of the room going "waoiii waioooooo" seriously loud. I cant really punish him for it as he has no concept of what he is doing and if I punished him for being loud he would be in trouble everytime he opened his mouth.

is it really normal for them to be constantly loud like this? I know my older daughter was loud but she could at least control her voisce when she wanted to! I have been driven to putting my mp3 player on with the volume up to hide it! the shouting words doesnt bother me too much but the screaming and squealing is unbearable!.

It doesn't sound completely 'normal' to me, although I dislike trying to categorise children by normality, they are all so different!

Reading between the lines, I am guessing you perhaps feel there is an issue that you need help with? Can you seek help from the GP as a starting point and ask for an appropriate referral to a professional?

Do you think his hearing is OK? My 2.6 year old squeals and makes loud random wails and noises when excited but not all the time. He can whisper and does normally talk at a 'normal' volume. Does he respond to you and follow instructions?

My LO is very noisy - lots of shouts and screams and he is 2.6, but the difference is he can talk quietly when he is calm and interested. Other times it's just him being boisterous.
