Pale, slightly blotchy/exzema complexion
Reluctance to ever feed more than 2oz
Constant chesty wheezyness
Blocked sinuses.

DD2 has had this from birth, and I have seen so many GPs about it, but as she is a great weight (18.5lb) they say to go with it, she is just a needy baby. She is infact a very sad baby, hasnt smiled yet, and a terrible sleeper day and night.

An intolerance of some kind?

Poor you and dd

Dominique07 · 10/02/2010 12:15

No. A reluctance to feed more than 2oz? What if she doesn't feed for, say 4 hours? Still only 2oz?

Freyfreysmum · 10/02/2010 12:23

She feeds every hour and a half to two hours, around the clock. Even if I give her cooled boiled water and try to encourage her to go 4 hours so she takes more, after this small qty she goes loopy.

Sounds like a dairy intolerance.

Freyfreysmum · 10/02/2010 12:31

She was prescribed Nutramigen (sp?) hypoallergenic milk as basically I had self diagnosed this, yet we tried it for 2 weeks with no effect.

It sounds like a weak immune system amongst other things i wonder if some baby vitamins like abidec would help? They certainly wouldn't help and would ensure that the baby gets any vitamins shes missig from her feeds.

My eldest had a constant runny nose until he wwas 3 and several chest infections but it did clear up as he got older.

All the best

At 4 months my DS went off his milk, made a huge fuss to drink anything, and had excema etc. After many failed visits to GP who said he was just fussy and didn't like milk etc. I self diagnosed dairy intolerance so tried Wysoy (soya SMA). It was amazing and he drank 7 oz for the first time. However, after a few weeks he reverted back to old behaviour. After numerous visits to GP I got him referred to GAstro specialist they very quickly diagnosed dairy and soya allergy (it can happen gradually as it builds up in system, my ds had no probs at all until 4 months old). They tried him on Pepti and Nutramigen to no effect (still derived from COws protein even though hypoallegenic and hydrogonised) eventually got him prescribed Neocate which is made up of amino acids. Miracle effect. New baby, still not a huge appetite but happily and quickly guzzles 6 or 7 oz a feed. He is now 8 months and thriving on a dairy and soya free diet.
There is no harm in trying the WYsoy first of all, although I know some people think soya formula is a bit controversial so do your homework first. If that fails then push for Neocate. They are reluctant to prescribe it as it cost £48 a tin!!! But it really has transformed our lives. Good luck

Sounds like my DS2. He has severe reflux as well though, blue choking episodes etc. The blocked nose and wheezing could be due to reflux. DS will take a tiny amount of milk then pull off crying then wait for ages before I can get any more in him. There's def no harm in you trying some gaviscon sachets in her milk - can get from GP. DS is also a big fat boy healthy weight, though he has been on various medicines from 2 weeks.

Freyfreysmum · 10/02/2010 13:58

We've done all the reflux meds from Gaviscon through to Omepr. Nothing.

i second intolerance/ allergy. if nutramigen didn't help, do try neocate. poor you and your DD!

how long was she on omeprazole for? what dose and how much did she weigh at the time?

Owlingate · 10/02/2010 15:35

Oh sorry to hear that. DS is on ompeprazole & domperidone, not having brilliant effect but slightly better! Demand referral to paed and to try neocate while you wait, not fair to leave her miserable like that. May be a matter of dosage like duende says.
