17mo dd only taking half her milk at night

She is still sleeping thru. Is this normal? Should I offer her a few oz during the day? She used to take 8oz and now it's usually 4 or 5oz.

She is a bit skinny but I wouldn't say she's eating much more during the day. Just wonder if this is a natural thing. She still has a full 8 oz in the morning.

Do they just go off milk as they grow up?

I think with my kids I was told that from 12 months, a small cup (4 oz maybe) a couple of times a day is enough, as long as they're getting calcium from other sources too.

Some people give milk to their kids all the time during the day, for years. If I do that with mine, it really cuts their appetite. Mine (2 & 4) have 2-3 oz in the morning and a couple of sips at night. They drink mainly water.

With my kids I noticed that they naturally drank less and less milk, especially at night. Not sure if it's the same with all kids, but it seems natural that they should need less milk as they rely more and more on solid food for nutrition.

My daughter 19.5mo has only one big bottle(8 oz)before bedtime. It's been like that for at least 4 months...She just wasn't interested in milk in the morning at all.I also give her 1 bottle during the day but she does not always want to drink it.Not worried as she loves yoghurts and fromage frais.
Yes,they go off milk as they grow up.

If that's all she wants, and she's still sleeping, then no problem! If she eats yoghurt/cheese, she can get ample calcium from those (and much smaller relative quantities of those as well). Also other foods, eg baked beans, broccoli, sardines. Personally, I think too much emphasis is placed on the importance of milk (cows milk that is) - but then my DD1 is allergic to it, so I would think that!

Great thanks for posting all. I will just let her get on with telling me what she wants!

She doesn't eat cheese (except in sauces) but I put milk in lots of her food so she should be getting plenty still. She drinks lots of water too so that could be it.

My 17m old dd is the same. She's having 4oz before we go up for bath but if I try to give her any more she leaves it. I'm also letting her get on with it as she's getting more than enough nutrition and calcium elsewhere.

dd2 has virtually stopped drinking milk from about 15 months. If she is still sleeping she doesn't need it.
Tbh children this age shoudn't be having bottles of milk anyway and the ones that do still drink lots of milk often don't eat properly.
I thought the guideline was 1/2 pint a dqay from 12 months.
She sounds normal to me.

18mo DD3 doesn't have a bottle at night at all now. We eat dinner late (18:30), so she just wasn't hungry for milk after that. She has a varied and balanced diet, so I'm not worried about it.

MNITA, thanks, she is being offered 1/2 pint a day because she is a bit skinny and she had some health problems last year. Don't want to give her too much but very important that she continues to gain well.

Have discussed the whole bottle vs. sippy cup of milk elsewhere and I have decided to continue with bottles morning and evening as they are very comforting for her and she doesn't get to keep them with her at all.

I guess her milk consumption will gradually drop.
