10 month climber! help

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to stop my dd climbing out of her highchair- she has an ikea one- which straps across her waist- but this doesn't stop her! Does anyone have this highchair and has had the same prob?

Also any ideas on how to stop her climbing the settee? She climbs up- laughs- then if I don't reach her quick enough falls off! I know she laughs because she likes me running towards the settee!

I know I combated this somehow with dd1 but for the life of me I cant remember- but she was a lot older I think.

Help!

I'm afraid at 10 months there's probably not a lot you can do about it.........she is too young to discipline really and saying no won't get you very far until she's a bit older as she won't remember it from one day to the next. I do sympathise though......my dd had always been a climber and still is now at nearly 2.

Does the highchair not have shoulder straps to hold her in? If not maybe buy some reins and use those to secure her to the highchair instead. If you think the running towards the settee is making it worse then I would just put some cushions on the floor around the settee for a soft landing and ignore her tbh......she may well get bored pretty quickly without an audience or dramatic reaction

The high chair should have D rings, we always attached reins to those, which stopped dcs getting out. I had two climbers, its a nightmare. Found DD standing ontop of the microwave in the kitchen trying to get to the top of the cupboards and before he was even 12 months old DS used to drag a box around to get up to things

There was a recall of some Ikea high chairs in December, just google Ikea high chair recall.

i don't think the antilop high chair has D rings but the suggestion of reins is a good idea, i've never quite understood how to use them properly as straps on high chairs but have muddled through before to tie the little bugger down secure my DD.
whilst we're on that point, BEWARE shopping trolleys, at about that age i turned around for a second and when i turned back she was STANDING in the trolley seat, very happy with herself (me not so since it was a DIY warehouse with hard concrete floors to catch her!!!)

and agree with heth about the cushions rather than the reaction....there is little you can do except make any fall a softer landing...she'll soon grow out of it or learn that it doesn't always end in laughter. She might even learn to get down properly off it too!! They are SO bouncy at that age, I don't mean to be blase at ALL but I watched my DD literally cartwheel down the stairs one morning, and get straight up and walk away. the shock of it made her cry but no injuries were sustained!

I have the antilop which I don't believe was involved in the recall.

Am going to have to invest in some straps- will possible have to tie at the back maybe!

Will have to invest in some more cushions too as these are currently cushioning the fire surround from the little blighter! I know she finds it hilarious when I run to her- in fact she climbs up there for the reaction now!

Thanks
