where do you your baby when you're in the shower?

Wasn't sure where to post this and it's a bit of a stupid question really, but to date my 8 mo usually sits in her bouncer whilst I shower, she will just about tolerate it for the duration of my (very short) shower. She's almost grown out of her bouncer and I don't know what to do with her when she's to big for it! Any suggestions? She can't crawl yet...

I used to take my dd in with me - she loved it.

theladyevenstar · 03/02/2010 13:57

Misswoowoo, thats what i have always done with ds2 he loves a shower

thenameiwantedwastaken · 03/02/2010 14:21

When mine got too big for bouncer I started putting her in Bumbo chair with baby gym in front of her. Must say it only lasted a couple of months before she could escape that as well! Now I try to shower while she plays in cot or naps. Sometimes just get desperate and leave her to cry in cot for few mins while I have a quick splash but wouldn't want to do that every day... Also put her in a door bouncer once but that was a bit of a faff...

Hope you find a solution

Cot.

In the shower too.

In the living room with Cbeebies on.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 03/02/2010 15:05

I used to use a travel cot as a playpen for DS2, for all sorts of situations.

MrsBadger · 03/02/2010 15:27

iirc at 8mo I left dd in the highchair with toys

butadream · 03/02/2010 15:30

We actually use the baby car seat on the bathroom floor for this or sometimes pad the baby bath with towels and put the baby in that.

tostaky · 03/02/2010 23:09

Ok - same question but with two kids (a 16 months old and a baby (im due soon)???

I will leave the baby in the cot but what do i do with my toddler??

  • cant leave him in a higchair (ours is not suitable)
  • cant leave him in the same room as the baby just in case he tries to throw a toy do something to him through the cot
  • nowhere else is safe in the house
  • we dont have a TV so CBeebies is out
  • our bathroom is very small (no bath, just an open shower)

Do i really have to get up at 6am and shower before DS1 gets up

Pluto · 03/02/2010 23:23

I have found that with DS2 the only manageable solution has been to make sure I shower before DH goes to work - and actually this has had all kinds of positive impacts but it has meant crawling out of bed at 6.30am from when DS2 was 3 weeks old. Otherwise the activity centre that a friend loaned was fab for a long time - someone else mentioned this in an earlier post. I have also been known to make a dash for the shower while he's been napping.

jazzandh · 04/02/2010 09:42

I used to dive in the shower as soon as I got up too. Then go and get DS up.

Once a bit bigger, in front of TV in our bedroom with cbeebies on.

Hi there, when my DS out grew his leapfrog rocking chair I just sat him at the other end of the shower with me (on a bath mat). Most of the time I just sat on the shower floor with my legs crossed with him on my lap playing with his bath toys, while I washed my hair etc. I am very lucky that he loves water and still does at 15 months old. But now DS can walk/run/climb out the bath, my DH has to entertain him while I have a shower every morning, because he still always wants to go in with me. The down side is my DH has to be up for work allot earlier than me ;-) Good luck.

verybusyspider · 04/02/2010 20:31

tostaky - I have 3 ds's with 18 months between each, no easy solution for showering when they are awake, once had more than one had to shower before dh went to work or evening before if he was away or during naps

MrsMong · 04/02/2010 20:43

Highchair in front of cbeebies

Travel cot full with mesh sides - good for when they are learning to move, roll, crawl, pull to standing. Chuck a few soft(ish) toys in for entertainment.

SoWhat · 04/02/2010 20:48

I usually leave her in her highchair after breakfast and go for my shower then. Peppa Pig helps.

sungirltan · 04/02/2010 20:53

bumbo seat?

btw i have a wet room so i am fecked! what i will do when dd gets bigger i dont know she now 4 months) think it will b cbeebies for us!

mnistooaddictive · 04/02/2010 21:16

Door Bouncer in bathroom doorway. It worked great once she grew out of bouncy chair until about 14 months.

mcflumpy · 05/02/2010 10:32

Great thanks everyone. This morning I put her in her bath seat in the bath with some stacking cups and she was quite happy with that and she seemed safe enough. Some really helpful suggestions if this fails to work.

I stuck DS in a travel cot in the living room, parking in front of ITNG [bad mummy]

In my defence he was rolling loads at 5mo, could escape the bouncer at 6mo and crawling at 7mo, so there was no other option really.

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 05/02/2010 10:40

tostaky - shower when the baby is asleep and childproof a room downstairs for your toddler.
