Morning crying

Hi, does anyone have any tips about morning crying. DS (16 months) always seems to cry at around 6am. We don't go in to him after a few minutes he settles himself and goes off to sleep for another three quarters of an hour or so. He's been doing this for about 4 months now! The only problem is that I don't get back to sleep again after he's woken at 6am. We're expecting our second now, so I'd love to know if there is anything we can do to help.

Hi, Could it be that he's still tired (so goes back to sleep) but is hungry? Do you feed him at night? We still give our 17 month old a bottle (6oz) at about 11pm, for which she wakes up just barely, and settles again immediately after drinking. It seems to get her through till 7ish or later. She does wake earlier sometimes and resettle herself like your son(and I have the same problem you do!) but only when she's in a teething phase. It might be worth a try if you don't already! Good luck!

does your central heating come on at 6am or some other regular noise (binmen- neighbour leaving house)? Could be that he has just woken and wants to go back to sleep Dd2 does this when she is really tired - wakes and bit - howls then goes back to sleep.

Hi, thank you both for your suggestions. I don't think its a regular noise, but I'll listen out! We did give him a 'dream feed' a little while ago as we'd been visiting friends and he had his bedtime milk early. He went through until 7.45am then, but it didn't have the same effect the next night! He is a greedy boy though, so I may try it again. It's not the worst problem in the world, just a bit frustrating! Thanks again.

My DS is just about to turn 2 and does exactly this. It is very annoying. I suspect our central heating wakes him.

My Ds 11 months does this but at 5am every morning. I was giving in and giving him a feed in our bed after which he would go back to sleep but have started leaving him. The last two mornings he has cried for about half and hour and then gone back to sleep until about 7.30am which is great. He doesnt howl its more sleepy crying but enough to keep you awake. It is annoying though as it wakes up DD 2.5yrs who shares a room with him and she is v difficult to get back to sleep.I thought the fact that he went back to sleep eventually and wasnt crying loads meant that he wasnt really hungy.

Thanks for your comments everyone. I've now moved his bedtime back to 7.45pm (was 7pm) and that's helped. He'll generally go until about 7am now, which is better. The experiment goes on!.....
