Excessive jumping from 2.4 year old DS?

Hi,

I've posted before on here about DS, who is 2.4, flapping his arms. Although he seems to be flapping a little less often, he has now start jumping a lot instead. He mainly jumps when he is excited, but I sometimes notice he is just doing it randomly. And to be honest, I'm not sure that the things things he gets so excited and starts jumping for are necessarily things that warrant such levels of excitement! For example, he will start jumping if we're building something out of lego or if he's playing 'shops' which he loves to do.

He does go to nursery 2 days a week, which he loves, and they have no concerns about him, but have noticed the jumping.. I suppose it seems more obvious to me now he is older - I don't notice any other toddlers jumping and flapping to the same extent.

Does anyone else have any experience of this? Do you think it warrants futher investigation? I have been to the GP about the flapping, but he has dismissed my concerns, saying it's quite common, but I'm not so sure.

Thanks.

My DS (2.5) jumps when he is excited, maybe once or twice a week at things like seeing me when he's been with his grandparents at the weekend, or his battery powered train going round the track (no arm flapping though).

My friend's daughter jumped ALL the time!!! Continuously ..... non stop! We all wondered if she ever got tired of jumping! And she is just normal! Now she has stopped the jumping all of a sudden just like it had started! She is a normal, chirpy, chatter box!

Dont sweat it

Thanks both. Lemur - he does it a lot more than a coule of times a week, more like a couple of times an hour! I do notice other children jumping with excitement, just not with the same frequency, which is probably why I've noticed it and got worried.

Neel, I'm sure you're right and I need to just relax about it, but I'm quite a worrier!

I have a 2.10 yr old jumper here, it's her way of expressing even the slightest amount of excitement. Even lego would get her jumping, even getting her a snack sets her off - I have to tell her to stop in order to hand said snack to her . She is just learning to hop, so we have jumping with an added state of instability - endless bumped heads result!

Thanks Lionstar - that is exactly what DS is like! Nice to know he's not the only one.

DS flaps his hands - although I never noticed until nursery pointed it out. He jumps around quite a bit too. Anyway, the nursery had some other concerns too, and on their advice we saw a paed. He said that DS was fine, he just moves a lot and that some boys are like that. He also said that there is a difference between a bit of hand flapping and stereotypic movement. So, not to worry, I think, unless you have other reasons.

Hi, did the jumping ever resolve? My 2.5 year old does this now and flapping when excited.
