Reflux and sleep- tips please!

DS (4months) has just been diagnosed with reflux- we knew this months ago though. As his weight is plateauing off, the HV finally took notice of our sick covered clothes and sent DS off to see the Doctor.

Anyway, we are struggling with getting milk into DS in the day. At night time he is obviously very hungry, having sicked up most of his feeds in the day.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get more milk into him in the day without more pouring out of him. Should we feed him little and often, or more with a bigger gap?

The doctor did not prescribe anything like gaviscon as he said that DS will be on solids soon and that should clear things up. We would like to hold out closer to 6 months with the solids though.

DS's 'voice' is now sounding croaky from all the vomitting he does so I may take another trip to back to the doctors for a prescription of gaviscon.

We have tried 'stay down' milk but he brought that back up- that made him cry as it was more solid than his normal 'comfort' milk.

At night, he takes his milk feeds and doesn't bring much back up at all. His cot is slightly tilted. In the day though, he can't bear lying down so keeping him flat is a tricky option. We do do a nappy change though after a feed so he gets a bit of laying flat time! Doesn't work though as the sick just dribbles out!

Any tips will be gratefully received.
Many thanks.

Oh dear. This brings back memories.
We had most sucess with Farleys formular milk. We also had to prop dd up for 45 mins after every feed (even night times, ugh) to stand a chance of her keeping it down.
Apparently the voice can't be damaged - that's what we were told anyway. DD has a fine voice now!!! It did get better when she was weaned.
We also changed her bedroom carpet!!!! Who cleans up properly at 4am??!!!!!

I would talk to the HV/GP about introducing solids a bit sooner in this specific situation. Slow weight gain that can't be helped by giving extra milk is one of the few situations where the benefits of earlier solids may outweigh the risks.

My sister in law tried formula based on goats' milk rather than cows, and had some success with that. Well worth holding on till 6 months to wean!

Our baby has acid reflux and we have just been given infant Gaviscon after the second visit to the doctor about it. It works so well and according to the packaging there are no known side effects.
The first time I spoke to the doctor she agreed she had reflux but didn't prescribe, saying that she wouldn't prescribe unless it was causing her discomfort.
But we had since found that she screams the house down after a bottle, doesn't settle well in her cot after a feed and has a red throat and a dry little cough - all of which seems to be a discomfort (plus pukes all the time, hours after a feed, even if it's breast milk)
So we went back and by chance saw a different doctor who was happy to try her with Gaviscon. So far so good and she is only on a half dose.
You could ask again if you think he is suffering.

We also use Hipp Organic baby milk which we found much better than SMA with regards to her bringing it all back up.
We tried her with a ready mixed carton of SMA a few weeks back as we were in a hurry and well that was the last night she slept in her crib.... covered in SMA in and instant!!

I have been told by the doctor to try little and often and to keep her up right after a feed.

My DS had terrible reflux and it did make the first 6 months a bit miserable.

I found little and often with his milk worked best, with plenty of chances to get some wind up.

I also found a nice solid bouncy chair was the nest place for him after each feed, he liked being upright but still (rather then jiggled about on my shoulder!)
