Screaming and thrashing around for ages -anyone else known teething this bad?

Hi, just a bit of reassurance needed I think...

DD is 18 months old (our PFB...) and she seems to be suffering excessively since her pre-molars started coming through.

We've had several episodes of hysterical yelling, flinging herself about etc., and this can go on for up to 3 hours. Carrying her around seems to comfort her a bit, although she will often scratch/hit me. It's like she's a different child.

We give paracetemol, which doesn't seem to make any differerence. Doctor recommended ibuprofen, but she broke out in a rash, so won't be giving that again.

So basically, I just wanted to know if this is "normal" for teething, as it's upsetting me a lot. Many thanks.

my ds was simalar with his pre-molars. other than paracetamol the only thing that comforted him was the same just getting carried round. it is a back breaker though my ds is 30lbs.

ds was terrible, actually quite ill with a temp and would thrash about. 4 pre-molar came through while we were on holiday and i think the pharmacist thought i was trying to kill ds as i bought so many variants of drugs (including medised which did help him sleep but don't think you are allowed to give now to children under 2 - not sure why as you could 2 years ago).

it's horrible and really painful. keep up with the paracetemol. hope they come through soon.

Thanks for your replies -it's reassuring to know we're not alone, even though I'm sorry your babies suffered too!

I agree about the backache, good job DH takes over a lot of the time...

My DS was really really screamy with every tooth but at his worst for the molars, he would scream for hours particularly at night and nothing made any difference.
i even tried Calpol Night without success- before they changed the rules to six years old

he would also get quite ill - with a temperature, snot would stream from his nose and worst of all were the nappies, he would be constipated for days before the tooth cut, and then they would turn to vile, very runny, very smelly nappies which would last for a couple of weeks.

and this happened for every tooth,
thank god they are all through now.

Good lord, poor you and your DS... Good job these babies forget the teething pain -even if we don't!
