Title says it all.
Shes 4 on sunday, has bee toilet trained for about 2 years. Then last friday she started wetting her self. Shes dont it once a day since.

I have no idea why. She just says ' that was a cheeky wee wasnt it mummmy. it just sneaked out on its own'.

Yeah, thanks for that. Im not the worlds most patient person and am getting annoyed with pissy clothes and floors.

WHY is she doing it? I keep trying to remind her and she says she doesnt need to go, then just does it.

Has she got an infection? or another medical reason? Is she drinking more than usual?

shoptilidrop · 21/01/2010 20:05

nope, nope and nope.

shoptilidrop, no help I'm afraid, but I'm in a similar position with DS who is 3. He's just sitting on the sofa/dining chair and weeing then telling me afterwards, he seems to think it's funny.

He has just started nursery but is happy and is using the loo there no problems. It seems like he's just become really lazy and can't be bothered to go to the loo.

I was thinking of maybe bringing back a star chart, I just can't think of anything else?

I'm hoping someone might have some advice too, so I'll keep watching.

FagAshLil · 21/01/2010 20:38

Im also in a similar position, DS is 3, been trained for about 8/9 months, dry at night and at preschool but for the last 2 weeks has wet himself everyday at home.
I cracked 3 days ago after he wet 4 pairs of trousers in 1 afternoon and told him if he did it again i'd remove a toy (standard punishment for mis-behaviour) We've had no 'accidents' since.
Im sure he just couldn't be bothered to stop what he was doing and go to the loo. Don't know if thats any help

MrsMalcolmTucker · 21/01/2010 20:49

Sorry OP - I know it's serious but lol at 'cheeky wee'.
Did you laugh the first time she said it had sneaked out? Because that is v funny, but maybe she's now doing it for the attention?

EssenceOfJack · 21/01/2010 20:53

Are you sure it's not an infection? DD1 has had a few and the first sign is always wetting herself, most of the time with no pain.
Can you go to the GP and ask them to test a sample?

Wallace · 21/01/2010 20:55

That's odd ds2 (3.5) has been doing this recently too. They must all be ganging up on us purely to annoy

shoptilidrop · 22/01/2010 09:20

no, i did not laugh when she said that. ( well i did after)
i told her it was not ' a cheeky wee' it was her fault and she needed to wee when she needed to go.

I think shes just being lazy and leaving it till the last min. We came home from a dog walk yesterday and she took coat/wellies etc off, grabbed an apple and took it in the living room.

2 mins later i hear' mummy, i need a wee, i need a wee' and shes weed herself on the atairs.

DD who is 8 has this happen sometimes, as recently as this month. Always a UTI and needs antibiotics.

mrsshackleton · 22/01/2010 10:07

dd1 who's nearly five had a phase of doing this, just laziness. In the end, I put away a favourite toy every time she did a "sneaky wee". At bathtime we'd haev knicker check and if her knickers were dry the toy would be returned.

She got quite proud of passing knicker check every night and said to me one day "I thought of doing a wee in my knickers when I was watching telly but then I knew you'd take my toy away so I went to the loo."

I think some children are just a bit lazy and don't read the wee signals very well, so they leave it too late. It will pass soon

wubblybubbly · 22/01/2010 10:28

I think it probably is just laziness with DS, rather than an infection, though how would I know? He usually laughs about it at first, then when he sees I'm cross it's all 'I'm sorry mammy, it was just an accident'.

He has days (tuesday) when he weed FOUR times in his pants, then Wednesday, not at all, becasue (I think) every time I went for a wee I made him come with me and go first. We turned it into a game, who can get there first etc.

I guess I'm just going to have to keep on reminding him and making him go with me and insist he goes before he's allowed to get involved in any activity that he might get totally involved in. A bit of a pain though, since he's been going by himself for ages now, but I guess he is only 3.

wubblybubbly · 23/01/2010 20:58

So far, so good, no random wees and DS is taking himself off to the loo on his own as well as racing me everytime I ago.

Hopefully, we'll have this sorted out again next week.

DaftApeth · 23/01/2010 21:09

If it is something that has started after being dry for ages you should seriously consider a UTI.

Also are they drinking enough? Sometimes not drinking enough during the day means that they do not get strong enough signals that they need to go and so some 'sneaks out' before they realise what is happening.

PlanetEarth · 23/01/2010 21:21

OK your daughter's quite young still, so it could be something developmental.

However, DD did this a while ago (aged about 9...). No sign of illness, but after a few days of accidents I took her to the doctor. He did a urine test (I don't know what they test for), found nothing.

Some weeks later she had pink cheeks for a couple of days, didn't really pay much attention, then my other DD got an awful rash over her face and was diagnosed with Slapped Cheek Disease. After the initial infection, it takes a few weeks for the red face to appear.

So, wee accidents explained at last... don't rule out an infection even if child doesn't seem ill.
