When to worry about weight?

DD2 (18mo) is a skinny minny--about 20lbs but normal height. At the moment I can see all the bones in her spine and when I pick her up can feel her little ribs and shoulder blades. She wears size 18-24 trousers for length but they don't stay up unless she's got a cloth nappy on! She's been off her food for a few days (teething we think, was very restless last night) but she's not picky when she does eat. Has just started walking so that might explain the current extreme skinnyness. I was very slim as a child, up until I got pg really, and DH has never been a bruiser either, so part of it is genes.

My question is when do you start to worry about a skinny baby? And what can I really do about it? I offer her plenty of food and try to keep her meals and snacks very worthwhile iyswim--she only eats a few bites of anything so want those bites to be packed with calories etc.

Am getting her weighed & hv opinion next week (when DD1 in nursery) but any advice/experience would be appreciated!

Don't worry so long as she is active and healthy. Both mine are skinny and neither have fitted into their bottoms - I have to buy adjustable waists. Mine have both had periods of very fussy eating followed by munching frenzies just remember everything is just a phase!

have you tried high calorie snacks? my DS just loved chips at that age so we had them as a treat once a week. it is hard to think high calorie when you want to avoid that kind of thing yourself. have you tried cereal with cream?

20lb at 18m is normal surely?? it is only 5th centile at 3 years...

My DS (3yrs old) is very skinny and tall, even adjustable waist trousers don't pull in enough to stay up without a belt, but he is very active and eats enough (most days),

he has been skinny since he started crawling and when I weaned him. these things happened at the same time so he never had time to just sit and pile on the calories,

I don't think you should worry too much if they are eating.
I suppose you could offer more carb rich foods i.e pasta, rice, potatoes etc and more fatty foods i.e. cook with more cheese and cream and add more cheese on top of pasta, baked potatoes etc

Thanks for the encouragement! Will just carry on with offering lots of food and keep an eye on her.

Not sure I would be so worried if she was my first but DD1 is a precocious eater, tucks right in to anything you put in front of her, and has always pretty much followed the same curve on the weight charts.
