Morning all,

Ds is 9mo now. He is coming along fine, crawling, playing and destroying our house .

So, im a little bit concerned that he seems to bump his head alot. He cries for a few seconds then just gets on with it again. Is this normal. When should I worry he will really damage himself?

Also, my mum said I give him to much freedom and this will come back on me. I play with him lots but sometimes let him get on with it for a while. He pulls out dvd's and tries to pull himself up. I let him but mum said to me he will become a terror! Is this an over-reaction on her part?

Lastly, if he cries in his high chair, I take him out and feed him on my knee or we both sit on the floor. Will this read to problems later?

Thanks if you read through all that!

He sounds normal. You sound normal. It all sounds good. Don't worry.

It's good that he can play on his own for a bit, and as long as you are ok with the things he's doing, you don't need to interfere. If you don't want him to touch stuff, just move it - at this age, that's the best way.

Re bumps to head - it's inevitable. If he cries for a bit and then seems ok, he's probably fine. If it's a more drastic bump, you just need to keep an eye out for signs of concussion.

sounds completely normal.
Childproof your house, you'll maybe cope with saying no 1000 times to things when you're at your mums but letting him get on with exploring safely at home will mean you can maybe actually get something done.

I've always fed mine in high chair because personally I don't like getting food all over me & it leaves my hands free to see to the others and gets them used to sitting when they get to a bit older and would take food all round house tread it in etc. but thats just personally.

Bumps inevetable at this age if he bangs it hard look out for glassiness in eyes check his eyes follow your hand/whatever and dilate and contract with light changes.

Sounds like he's doing great exploring.

As for freedom he's still a baby - he'll start to test the boundaries soon enough and you'll say no to something and get a cheeky grin back you can address that then. (prob by a year or 18 months)
