Trouble with No. 2s

Mumsnetters: Can anyone help me please?

The eldest of my twin boys (age 3 yrs 9 months) has, very recently, been announcing that he needs a poo and dashing out of the room for the toilet. He never goes to the toilet though. He comes back in saying he doesn't need one. He does this several times in quite quick succession, and then later on, does it in his trousers.

Normally, both boys are very good at going to the toilet and are completely toilet trained (through the night also) - so I am wondering what might be going on for him.

Has anyone experienced this sort of behaviour? I can't think he can be constipated as he is eating lots of fruit and vegetables every day and what he does in his trousers isn't anything he would need to strain to do, if you know what I mean.

He is the naughtier of the two in terms of behaviour (being the eldest, he is very protective of his twin).

I just can't fathom it out.

tbh constipation can present as diarrhoea

the main lump of poo remains in the bowel and liquid poo flows around it, hence soft leaks/skiddy pants

you need medical intervention to sort it out

lactulose will help to keep his poo soft and essy to pass from the 'top end' but he may need suppositories to soften the lump before he can pass it easily

the bowel can stretch and the child can lose the sensation of needing to go

it can be a comlpicated thing

Thanks for your input TYFUD but he doesn't have diarrhoea nor any soft leaks/skiddy pants. He literally just stands and does a poo in his pants.

He has been fine this weekend though - and has been for a No. 2 (after announcing) yesterday and everything looks as it normally does. So don't feel he needs medical intervention.

Thanks though.
