Washing Hair - DD hates it !!!

I've been putting it off for a while, she hates having her hair washed, I try to get her to tilt her head back so water doesn't get in her eyes, but she was very grumpy this evening and just wouldn't co-operate with anything.

She's 4yo and very tired at the end of the school day in reception, but I couldn't put it off this evening as her hair was sticky with something or the other (ugh!).

I have seen a visor that can go on their heads to protect them from the water and shampoo - has anybody heard of something like this, and if so, where would I buy one?

thisisyesterday · 13/01/2010 20:08

get this

I am not normally one for things like this, but they really, really work! i was astounded.
mine HATE having their hair done, but are fine with this, and it actually works

I know what your mean - we used to have one - lloked like a collapsed lampshade.

This is a more up to date thingy

This jug looks handy!

Holding a damp flannel over the eyes is the cheapest and simplest method. It works for us, and we went through a stage where I worried our neighbours would think I was trying to murder dd due to the screaming.

GColdtimer · 13/01/2010 20:14

I've got this.

Has transformed hair washing times. Oh, and a sticker on her chart if she limits the screaming!

Undercovamutha · 13/01/2010 20:17

We tried loads of different gadgets, and finally found that the damp flannel over eyes worked best. But we have to give lots of warning so she is ready!!!

We've got that lil rinser thing that's the first of Milliways links. It fab. DD calls it her bath crown. It's calmed hair-washing to the extent that she doesn't need it any more (she only puts it on when she remembers she wants to look regal).
I only wash her hair about once every ten days (to my mum's horror). I have to blow dry it, so she likes hair-washing day as she's allowed to watch an extra Charlie and Lola whilst I'm drying it.

gybegirl · 13/01/2010 20:25

Oh 'tis the same as thisisyesterdays!

pinchmeimustbedreaming · 13/01/2010 20:26

this is not an idea for 'show home' mummys. we have put a few easily removable stickers on the ceiling and he looks up and tells me whats up there. easy squeezy!!!!

GettinTrimmer · 13/01/2010 21:07

Thanks so much for your replies and the links.

We didn't have a great bath time she was screaming and I ended up just pouring water over her head in exasperation . When we had a chat after the big sulk I told her I vaguely remember something like these crown thingys. I will order one later.

I am not a "show home mummy" (far from it!) pinchme, but I can just see ds balancing on the bath to try and grab the stickers....

personally wouldn't recommend the jug - we got one but DD still needs to tip her head back (which she doesn't understand at 22 months!)so doesn't work at all. Definitely going to try one of the guards though!

mummytowillow · 13/01/2010 21:26

Now this has saved me from posting the same problem! My DD 2.4 screams the place down when having her hair washed, to the point it fills me with dread!

I'm off to buy one of those head things to!
