Night Light to encourage 16 mo "early riser" to play in cot!?!?

HI there,

I have a 16 mo DS who wakes between 6-6.30am (way tooooo early!). His room is currently pitch black and after being awake for 20 mins or so in the dark, he understandably has had enough!

I thought if I put some books etc in his cot, he may happily 'play' until 7am, when I am prepared (!) to rise.

Can anyone recommend a successful night light (or any other top tips) please!!?

Many thanks

I never found a really bright night light (I suppose that's the point though of them?). I used to get up and say it's not time to get up yet and pop some toys in the cot at that point and put a bedside light on.

But your idea is really really good. Go for it!

teaandcakeplease - did this strategy work? And then did your LO eventually learn to sleep longer?

Yes but my first was a girl and sometimes I think they're better at playing on their own, she was also happy in a play pen as well though.

But she didn't go back to sleep often just played with her toys and gave me a little more kip. I sometimes thought that maybe I should just go to bed sooner and felt guilty.

She also always went to bed at 7pm ish so after 11 or 12 hours sleep, she of course was refreshed. I didn't find making her bedtime later made any difference to her wake up time and quite frankly it just ruined the nice routine she was in if I started mucking about with bedtimes.
