Breath holding in toddler

I'm not talking about tantrums, more when DS watches tv, he'll hold his breath for probably 3 or 5 seconds, then exhale quite fast. I ask him to breath normally, when he then breathes out. Then, seconds later, he's holding it again.

Not anything big, but I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this. Is it a concentration thing for him? Should I be ignoring it?

Thanks

I dont know because I dont have personal experience with this but it sounds like he might just be testing what he can and cant do.
I know its not the same but this week DD (16months) has started puffing. She breathes completely normally and then a look of concentration will come across her face, she purses her lips and blows out a couple of big puffs.
Possibly similar thing? 3 - 5 seconds isnt a massive problem though so I wouldnt worry too much, maybe he'll get bored of it soon!

Thanks for posting Just1LittleLady. I hope he'll get bored of it too. I don't think it's an attention thing, as he does it when he's fully engrossed in Peppa.

My Dad does the same sometimes - breathes and holds his breath for a few seconds, but he doesn't realise he's doing it, maybe it's a hereditary thing.

Hopefully he'll grow out of it, but I know it isn't a major thing, I just wondered if anyone else's LOs were similar.

Maybe your DD is getting in practice for blowing out candles (although a little way off ).

Thanks again for posting.
