20 month DS - sleep changes, advice appreciated!

DS is nearly 20 months. Was always a good sleeper (apart from illness). Over the last 6 weeks or so we've had more bad nights than good. I call it WideAwakeClub... he'll cry out (not crying upset, just noise) and won't re-settle. Eventually I'll go in... and I either end up "sleeping" on the floor next to his cot until he drops off - can be an hour - OR picking him up if he's upset and rocking him in the chair... and then sleeping on the floor anyway... He often is just jumping up and down in his cot chatting away wanting to play with me...

Other info that might be useful...

  1. BedtimeGoes down fine - usual tea/play/bath/books/milk/cuddle routine. Usually in his cot by 7/7.15. Has started to grumble for a few moments - not exactly cry but winge a bit. Whenever I can tell he's dropped off I always go back in to his room, and recently he will have thrown everything from his cot into a pile on the floor. Duvet, pillow, toys (which aren't in the cot but wedged between cot and wall - so they aren't taking up mattress space IYSWIM).... maybe he's becoming a minimalist like his father... .

2)He is physically strong - walked earlyish, tall/big for his age. Good eater. Not talking yet, apart from No, and some language that might be Welsh or Hebrew...

Do you think he's ready for a big bed...?

We are having similar issues with our 22 month old. She is talking so she's told me she wants a "big girl bed". At first I thought no way until she's sleeping better, but my Dad reckons moving my brother to a big bed saw his first full night's sleep. I'm ordering the bed tomorrow and if it fails she can go back in the cot.

It's definitely worth a try, just pop pillows on the floor (plus it would be more comfy if you need to get in with him!)

Good luck xxx
