This is more of a WWYD regarding dd1 (6.1) and night-time wetting..

Will wet the bed on average 2-4 times a week. Is dry through the night on the nights she doesn't wet

If we lift her before bed, she remains dry all night

WWYD?

Just go with it or lift for a couple of months and then try again?

Tia

When mine went dry through the night I always lift for at four weeks....

Both of my ds's were like this. When ds2 was wet he would come into us, we'd quickly change him and his bed and put him back in. I lifted ds1 and was told by school nurse that it can be counter productive as they don't learn to wake themselves up to go when they need it. No idea if it's true or not. I would do whatever is easier for your family and ds.

sorry - dd!

alarkaspree · 12/01/2010 18:10

How long since she has been out of night time nappies? If it's a recent development i.e. her body is still learning then I would try lifting before bed for a few weeks - this worked for dd. But if she's been out of nappies at night for ages I would try other things - you could restrict drinks in the evening (give her lots to drink before 5pm). Or see if you can spot a pattern between daytime activities/bedtime and bedwetting.

Thanks for replies

Cornsilk, I am aware that lifting is not really recommended because they never get aware of the need to go to the loo in the night... but dd is getting fed up of wet beds and it just seems soooo convenient to lift her (I wake her to do it, she walks to the toilet)

Also the changing of a bed in the middle of the night is a pain. Sometimes it wakes dd2 (they share) and I'm pg as well. NEED SLEEP

In that case I would lift her. Just do what you need to.

cornsilkscatholichamster · 12/01/2010 18:15

I was told toilet/teeth/toilet at bedtime and no dark drinks which seemed to help.

notnowbernard · 12/01/2010 18:15

She refused a nappy from about 5.5 (fair enough)

So we lifted, as her nappy was only ever dry sporadically at that time

Then stopped lifting around Oct time last year, which worked reasonably well for a while. But as I said, she wets about 2-4 times a week roughly. Not always a 'full-on' wee - she wakes and realises so can go and finish in the toilet - but occasionally wets completely

Useful tips, thanks

Will do the toilet/teeth/toilet thing - think she sometimes rushes the last wee

Only drinks water, really... never been a huge drinker (unlike 3.4 dd2 who coincidentally is now dry at night - hope thgis doesn't affect dd1 too much)

It's good that she's waking some of the time though. Sympathies anyway - it's a very tiring phase - especially if you're pg.

cornsilkscatholichamster · 12/01/2010 18:22

Also my 2 both were terrible for lying awake in bed before they fell asleep. With ds2 I would make him go and do another wee if he'd been awake for a while and that helped.

notnowbernard · 12/01/2010 18:22

Yes, I think that's why we're not freaking out or worrying about it - I think she's on her way, it's just taking its time... had she never been dry or never woken to wee I'd be a bit concerned

Ooh, will do that as well! Ta muchly

Good luck

Just thought I'd add to this thread to say that I've stopped dd having juice or squash from mid-afternoon

If she wants a drink after that time, she has water (am doing this to dd2, too)

And they have both had dry beds for the last 6 nights (expected for dd2, but is GREAT for dd1 who ordinarily would have wet the bed at least once or twice in this time) She is really pleased

Thanks again for the tips offered on this thread!
