Flat head 4 mth old baby

I am at my wits end with the realisation that my beautiful 4mth old baby boy has a flat head on the back right side.
I am seeing doctor tomorrow but after reading quite a lot on the subject am soooo worried that I will not be taken seriously or it's too late for him.
His forehead has started to bulge a little on the side that his head is flat and one of his ears is slightly out of line.
Has anyone any experience of this? I have ordered a special pillow for night sleeping and I am trying repositions also but I am so scared it's too late. Please can I have some advice as the last thing I want is to have to buy a helemt at £2000!!

Where have I been aggressive?

You have implied I don't know what I am talking about dizzee and I don't appreciate it.

I have spoken the facts from my point of view, better than wishy washy platitudes that everything will be fine when no one can possibly know about this child.
MY RESPONSE: YOU HAVE BEEN EXCELLENT AND CONCISE IN YOUR RESPONSE AND SO MANY WILL APPRECIATE. ANYONE WASTING TIME IN IDLE, MEANINGLESS NEGATIVE COMMENTS, HAVE MISSED THE POINT. NO OTHER COMMENTS IS NEEDED.
WOULD YOU BE SO KIND AS TO TELL WHERE I CAN BUY THE GADGET TO MEASURE FLAT HEAD. MY GRANDSON`S DOCTOR AND THE HEALTH VISITOR HAVE DISMISSED THIS ISSUE AND TOLD TO WAIT UNTIL THE BABY (NOW 9 MONTHS) IS 2 YEARS OLD WITH THE RESULT THAT THE PARENTS WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, INFACT THEY DENY IT. I THOUGH THAT IF I COULD SHOW IT USING THE CORRECT GADGET IT MIGHT HELP HIS PARENTS TO SEE A SPECIALIST. THIS IS MY LAST CHANCE, I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO CONVINCE TO SEE A SPECIALIST SINCE I NOTICED THIS ' 5 WEEKS OLD. HE WAS NOT BORN WITH A FLAT HEAD.
MANY THANKS. MRS CUR

Jo, if you're still reading this thread the other that's worth trying is to carry your LO in a sling rather than in a pram/pushchair, particularly if you're out and about a lot. It puts significantly less pressure on the back of their skulls.

Oh, and I don't wish to denigrate other posters' opinions, but please be aware if you visit a cranial osteopath that the science behind it is still very uncertain (and that's being polite!) What science there is relates to adults only, not children or babies.

Please also be aware that cranial osteopaths are not the same as osteopaths (there is well documented proof that osteopathy works).

www.badscience.net/2004/09/cranial-osteopathy/Here.

Although not mentioned in the link, cranial osteopaths are also unlicensed and unregulated.

I know that some people have experienced improvements in medical conditions after visiting a cranial osteopath. However, I am not convinced that the one causes the other (and I do think it's OK for someone who has benefited to run with the old "I don't care how it works as long as it works" argument).

But it would be a cold day in hell before I let a cranial osteopath near my precious baby's fragile and still moving skull plates!

Ooops - bad link. Should be this:

Is everyone aware this thread started in jan 2010?

CinnabarRed · 15/02/2011 16:11

Oh. Well perhaps someone else might benefit....

Just wondering if anyone is still following this thread?
My 6.5 month old son starts treatment in a week as his plagio&brachy is severe. Diagonal flattening at back right side and a bulge to left front side, out of line ears, cheek bone and brow tho face misalignment isn't noticeable.
Someone earlier in the thread posted that Leeds is one of the areas that treat this on the NHS.... I'm afraid to say we've been forced to go private and live in Leeds! We waited 7 weeks for a referral and even then the consultation was vague to say the least!
Jack has 18.6mm to make up with plagio and there are 2 % readings on our literature tho I'm not entirely sure yet what they mean:
Cranial Index: 95.9%
ODDI: 113.7%

He has been wonderful at tummy time since around 3 months and we used a Goi Goi pillow, Bumbo etc etc and it still got gradually worse. Probably because he's so flipping good at sleeping 12 hours straight at night.

I am nervous of the treatment starting and wonder if anyone still here has advice re: initial problems for lo's and their new head gear?

My DS got a really flat head towards one side. I was told to give tummy time etc and it would sort itself out. He is now 3.2 and I can still see it. No one else apparently can because he has hair Hmm but I can clearly see that one side, at the back is a funny shape, I hope he never wants to have a closely shaved hairstyle as it would be really noticeable then.

Don't let them fob you off. DS wouldn't turn his head, even though he could. i would move his head in his sleep, he turned it straight back again, he hated tummy time. I couldn't afford a helmet but all I got told was "it will sort itself out" and I wasn't convinced. I knew I should have trusted my instincts.

I am a Grandmother who is reaching out for any words of encouragement.
My baby granddaughter was diagnosed today with excessive flat head syndrone. She's 4 mos old and the Dr. said to just wait for her 6 mo check-up now that she's sitting with assistance, and rolling over. She's not excited about tummy time and does not change position while sleeping at night. Lays flat on her back. She does roll over in her bed when waking up, but not to sleep in that position all night long (7-8 hours).
She has a Boppy pillow, Bumble Seat and a new play walker as of today. I'm asking for advise about nightime sleeping.. Her Mommy does not use bumper pads in the crib because she was told that they are dangerous. I think the baby wakes up everytime she rolls over in the crib at night and hits the crib bars. So, does anyone use any kind of head pillow or bumper pads? What kind of pillow would that be?
