Nearly 10mth DD not crawling, pulling up, standing

Hello

My DD is nearly 10mths and hasnt done much in terms of physical milestones yet. She has never really rolled (though can if she wants), doesnt crawl but will reverse shuffle on smooth floor- but has to be placed on front) and doesnt stand much on legs but will occasionally now if I have her on my lap.

I am happy to let her do these things in her own time as I know she has developed faster in other less physical ways. In fact, its quite a pleasure having her stay put when I put her down!

However, I think she is getting frustrated and so my DH thinks we should get some kind of walker to strengthen her legs.
Does anyone agree this is a good idea? or shall we leave her and she will do it when she is ready?

Any comments would be helpful.
Thanks, GBL.

Frustration can be a great lead to determination though!! I am the opposite, had a child that was very capable physically, but my friends DD was months behind DS (she is 2 weeks younger) in terms of walking etc. She must have been about 20 months or so I reckon, whereas DS was running around at 11 months, he could escape very easily from you so - yes in a way I imagine it is nice to have her still at times lol!!

Also said friends DD was in a walker from early on, so did nothing to aid her. I do think it will be something that will come and if she is happy to have a go with your support then keep that encouragement up. Make it worth her while to try as it were!!

Now they are both 2.3 and she is charging around!

FWIW, my Ds never really crawled, just got up and walked!

it still very early days.

I think I'd let her keep trying. It's very early to be doing those things and as already said determination and frustration push them into doing it.

One of my boys did nothing until 15 months then he crawled, pulled himself up and walked within 3 weeks. They do it when they can.

Thanks for your comments. I am not really worried and I'm happy to let her get on wiht it in her own time- mainly from insight i've got from MN! Its just my DH being concerned- I dont want to refer him to MN, or I will get my cover busted!

The nursery has one of those stand up activity stations so she gets to use that a lot- if it helps.

Both my ds's didn't crawl until 10 months. I wouldn't worry too much about it at the moment.

My dd was delayed with her physical milestones - crawled at 15 months and walked at 20. Physio said never use a walker but just encourage standing which will lead to cruising eventually. Keep putting her on her tummy too which will strengthen key muscles and she may even start to crawl.

Like pp said, frustration is the best way to get them moving so let her get frustrated!!

nothing to worry about at 10 months. i have friends whose little ones didn't crawl til past 12 months and didn't walk til much later.

Baby walkers don't strengthen their legs and can encourage an unnatural walking position (Activity stations are OK, but won't have an effect on leg strength either)

If you want to give her a walking aid, try one of those wooden push along carts or a plastic one like the VTech walker. My DS loves charging about with one of those and has done since about 9-10 months (but he was an early crawler).

Don't worry about it. My DS refused to crawl properly for ages. He was doing a very odd commando-crawl, slithering across the floor on his tummy but just wouldn't get onto his hands and knees. He was 11mths when he finally just did it one day!

He is now 15mths and walking so don't worry - frustration will spur her on!
