Getting rid of the swaddle

DD is 5 months now, and is still swaddled. Will she hell sleep any other way unless in her car seat/pram when we're out. She is getting a bit too big and strong to stay in it now, and she is starting to try and roll over and I don't want her succeeding when swaddled!

How do I go about getting her out of this? I have tried the one arm swaddle, tried cold turkey, all she did was rub her eyes and knock her dummy out a hundred times before screaming the house down.

Suggestions much appreciated!

have you tried rolling up two burping cloths and laying them either side of her to stop her from rolling? when shes ready to sleep with her arms out you'l know as she do her level best to kick the blankets off

We just went from swaddle to grobag, have you tried this? not as tight as swaddle but still makes them feel "secure".

have recently gone from grobag to sheet/blanket combo and she spends her night kicking them off.....

Hello

My DD is now nearly 10mths but was swadddled up to about 5mths I think. I debated long and hard about how to stop it, as I was so nervous about her sleeping badly (ie me sleeping badly!)

THink started swaddling from under her arms to start with for daytime naps so she got used to free arms but she was still wrapped. THis also meant we could put her in her cot rather than her crib which had hard bars on the side. THis was all during the day

One night she was crying in her crib fully wrapped so we dropped her to under the arms in her cot, she still cried. So we took the whole thing off and that was that.

We moved to sleeping bags then too.

IME - with all these things, DD has been much more adaptable than I expected or gave her credit for. SHe has recently gone to nursery and is doing 5 days and she hasnt batted an eyelid (cant say the same about me!). My DD continually amazes me.

GOod luck

Grobags here too. DS was swaddled and seemed to need it to sleep at all. When he outgrew the largest SwaddleMe, nighttime hell ensued until we discovered Grobags. The first night in his bag, back to sleeping normally, we thought it was like magic. We used the smallest Grobag at first even though it didn't give him much room to move at that point, helped to transition.

Actually just a thought but if you wanted to continue to swaddle and your DD fits, a SwaddleMe was the only way we could ever keep DS swaddled (you can find them on ebay) as it closes with velcro hidden under little bears. It is very easy to do one arm out, two arms out, etc. if you wanted to, and has a carseat hole too. Just an alternative idea.

my australian friend says that over there they swaddle till much later (1 year?) and have a swaddle technique that gives them an envelope/triangle that leaves some movement in arms but not flailing ifykwim. Not sure of the technique myself but you could try a goodle search for swaddle but limit in advanced setting to au.com ?
