10mth baby girl rolling over to sleep on tummy - is this safe yet??

Hiya - I need some advice please.
My 10 month old baby girl has this week started rolling onto her tummy to sleep. We put her down at around 7pm, but I check regularly on her before going to bed myself (fortunatly she usually sleeps though til 7am). I keep finding her fast asleep on her tummy. I have been turning her back onto her back - but need to know if I should just leave her alone?? I am setting my alarm twice so I can check on her in the middle of the night too and turn her back over. She sleeps in a baby gro and a sleeping bag, which I am not prepared to take her out of yet because she kicks off all blankets.
Can anyone advise whether they would leave her be, or whether I am doing the right thing by turning her over?? None of my friends seem to have had a problem with this.
Advice please !!

she's fine! If she can roll over by herself,it's safe. Put her down on her back but don't worry about her after that. And keep in a sleeping bag for as long as you possibly can

fernie3 · 08/01/2010 18:57

my 10 month old sleeps in all sorts of funny positions, by this age its fine and there is no need to wake up just to check on her you must be exhausted!

winnybella · 08/01/2010 19:03

It's fine, let her sleep!

Mocheenee · 08/01/2010 19:21

Have just put her down after her bath, and have put her on her back and......I will try not to worry so much tonight !
Thank you all so much for the reassurance. I will try to control my 'checking' urges this evening, and maybe I will only set the alarm once tonight (will have to wean myself off the paranoia methinks ).
Fernie - you are right - it has been exhausting! but because my friends babies are settled and stay on their backs I think I have been over cautious.
Thank you so much again..I def feel better now

I was the same - the first time I found that DD had got onto her side I was paranoid! The good thing was once she started having some control over the position she slept in, she slept much better.

from 6 months you can let them find their own sleeping position. From the sids website:

My baby keeps rolling onto his front. What should I do?

If your baby is less than six months old and you find him sleeping on his tummy, gently turn him onto his back. Don?t feel you need to keep getting up all night to check on this. Whatever your baby?s age, always place him to sleep on his back.

Don't worry about it. As soon as your baby is able to lift her head (which, I'm assuming at 10 months she's pretty good at!) sleeping on their tummy is no longer an issue. Don't waste anymore precious sleep time setting your alarm...

Leave her be - my DS is 15mths and has been sleeping on his tummy since he could roll over! He always sleeps that way without fail!

juliemacc · 09/01/2010 15:14

Yup, worried myself with DD1 about this, pity they dont make velcro babygros to stick them to the bed!

whelk · 09/01/2010 18:11

dd2 slept on her side/ front from about 10 weeks. There wasn't much I could do about it!

essenceofSES · 09/01/2010 18:19

DS started rolling at 15 weeks and immediately started sleeping on his tummy. I put him down on his back and he normally rolls within seconds - obviously more comfy for him.

juliemacc - have you thought about patenting the velcro babygro

juliemacc · 09/01/2010 19:55

Oooh, do you think so? dragons den? would any MNetters but one?

brettgirl2 · 10/01/2010 19:56

My daughter turns herself over immediately and has done since about 3 months. I started waiting till she was asleep and turning her back over (sometimes) successfully. I was told by hv to leave her because the reason they should sleep on their backs is so they don't drown in sick (nice, sorry). If they can roll they can also get away from it.

Hiya all - I know it's been a few days now but I wanted to thank everyone who posted ! I wanted to report that I have been much much more relaxed about her sleeping position since all your positive assurances. It's great that so many other moms are so kind in offering their own experiances and advice (yep, I am new on here, but will def post again with any probs or help I can offer).
Thanks all xx.

Hi Everyone, my names Lyndsay and this is my first time on hear just signed up tonight.

My question is our 10mth old son Tyler has just moved into his own room 2 nights ago and I have been sleeping on a blow up bed beside him because I'm so scared something is going to happen to him because he sleeps on his tummy. We always put him down lying on his back but he rolls onto his tummy as close to the cot bars as possible. Tyler is my first baby I sadly lost 5 prior to having him so he is everything to me am I just being over protective. Thanks

Mamatribe · 09/06/2018 17:29

My 9 m old has been doing this since 4 m old - I used to flip him back over but he’s comfy and likes to sleep on his side or tummy (Hayes being on his back now) so we leave him to it - just make sure bedding is well fitted and isn’t loose to gather up around his face
