My dd will be 2 next week. I would be grateful for any suggestions for some new toys.

She has lots of books, a doll, a pushchair and a walk along truck with bricks.

A balance bike, or one of those trikes that adapt as she gets older.

A trampoline if you have a garden.

Anything with buttons to press.

A bag to carry her toys around with her (small rucksack).

MrsBadger · 07/01/2010 13:28

Duplo
teaset
farm / zoo animals
scooter or trike
dressing up stuff (hats, bags, necklaces etc, not a fairy princess dress)
musical instruments
paints and art stuff
easel and chalks

MrsBadger · 07/01/2010 13:29

chunky dolls' house

hf128219 · 07/01/2010 13:29

Keep 'em coming! She's already got a trike.

oh and die-cast cars

brio-type train set

Doodleydoo · 07/01/2010 13:35

Kitchen set
cut up vegetables
farmyard?
Arty things
Mine has a kitchen and loves all the bits that go with it- there are some really lovely wooden biscuits and cakes that you can cut up and a she also loves her shopping basket. At this time of year the indoor play stuff is brilliant!

hf128219 · 07/01/2010 13:36

Do you tend to ignore the ages specified on toys?

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 07/01/2010 13:39

to a certain extent yes

jemart · 07/01/2010 13:48

wendy house.
toy kitchen, washing machine, furniture to go in wendy house.
dressing up clothes and accessories.

Take her to the build a bear shop - get new bear plus outfits. I'd go for one daytime outfit and some pyjamas. Then you can add to collection of teddy stuff for treats, christmas and subsequent birthdays.

Great ideas - many thanks.

Any more?

oh and dd adores these cotton reels for threading - actually she has my old ones

krugerparkrules · 07/01/2010 13:57

can second the cut up play fruit and vegetables, and especially the wooden cake that you cut up with little candles (just google there are quite a few distributors) dd has played with this so much

hf128219 · 07/01/2010 13:58

Oh they do look like fun!

My DD also has the toy kitchen plus shopping trolly full of bits of play groceries and really seems to enjoy playing with them.

hf128219 · 07/01/2010 14:13

She has a toy kitchen and a shopping trolley - they are currently covered in snow in the back garden!

We also have the cut up cake and candles - have lost a couple of candles but she loves it anyway - also my sisters and their kids gave her this for xmas and it has not stopped being played with - chunky and beautiful if a little bit pricey!
Honeybake baking set
can be got in lots of places if you google and found it cheaper elsewhere! Lots in the Le Toy range too.

MrsBadger · 07/01/2010 14:27

oh yes, dd was given the Honeybake breakfast set thus for her 2nd birthday

Doodleydoo · 07/01/2010 14:38

Mrs Badger - I am jealous for my dd - loving that it looks great - might have to see if I can get one! Lovely - have to say OP that Honeybake stuff is very nice quality - chunky but delicate iyswim. Brilliant - and very pretty! (Oh and doesn't take up a ridiculous amount of space either!!!)

I think we gave DD an easel and some jigsaws for her second birthday - she loves floor puzzles from Galt/Orchard Toys. If Orchard Toys still do a playground one (Galt did, but it's been discontinued I think) then that's been a big favourite.

She's also played at lot - especially when she was round about 2 - with those dolls' house dolls that stand on flat wooden feet (Voila make them, so do Pintoy). She has some furniture and a playground set for them - no actual house, though. I thought I'd wait until she was old enough for a more grown-up dolls' house (if she's interested) - I enjoyed mine a lot when I was 7-14.

We've just given her the ELC's farmyard for Christmas, but she's 2.10 and might have been a bit young for it at 2 (OK, maybe not, but it seems perfect for her right now). It doubles as a dolls' house, really.

wooden train set also v. popular.

vesela · 07/01/2010 21:14

Orchard Toys giant farmyard jigsaw

giant fairytale jigsaw

dolls' house jigsaw (rooms are colour-coded to help)

ok, I see Orchard Toys also do a playground jigsaw but it's 50 pieces. The discontinued Galt one has 24 and is perfect.

vesela · 07/01/2010 21:26

Opposites puzzle was also very popular. DD took a particular liking to the sad boy in the happy/sad pair (he's sad because he's dropped his icecream).

Thank you so much everyone - so kind and helpful!
