I have googled it and it says that toddlers do it to comfort themselves. He is 27 months and it wakes him up when he does it. He normally ends up in my bed about 1-2am and he keeps me awake doing it. How can I stop him doing it?

Is he still in his cot?

SparklyGothKat · 07/01/2010 01:11

No, he went into a bed at 18 months as he could climb out

Is it a toddler bed, lower then a single bed? If so, you can move it away from the wall. My ds used to fall out of his bed every night, a toddler bed was safe as he didn't have far to fall, I used to put pillows on the floor aswell.

Could you roll up a blanket into a sausage shape and put it on the edge of his bed where the wall is??

yes its a cotbed, so lower. he doesnt bang his head against the wall but he lays on his tummy and then bangs downwards into his mattress IYKWIM? but it wakes him up.

Just realised I put DS1, its ds2 now ds1 (ds1 is 12, and defo. doesn't headbang lol)

Ahh, I see. Have you tried giving him something to comfort him? A teddy/soft blanket?

I'm out of ideas but will bump this in the morning for you incase anyone has some magic words of wisdom

anyone else know about headbanging, do they grow out of it? He has been doing it only recently.

Oh gosh, ds was a massive headbanger! He did grow out of it eventually. He used to do it when he was tired, I think it was rhythmic and comforting or something. Quite disturbing to witness or hear though!

No ideas on how to stop it though, sorry.
