11 month old waking for dreamfeed out of habit

hi there

we have just dropped the dreamfeed for our 11 month old baby. i know i have kept it going for too long i was just scared to drop it! the first couple of nights were fine. he stirred a bit at 10.30/11pm and them went back to sleep. now he is waking up and screaming and cant be consoled without his milk. i am sure that it is a habit and he isnt hungry as he eats loads during the day! we also had got it down to him taking just a few ounces at the dream feed so i am certain its not hungar. i think we have made a rod for our own back now! what do we do - do we let him cry it out? we have a 3 yr old so dont really want him to wake her up.

any help much appreciated!

One feed at 10.30/11.00?

I'd let him have it.

Can't see dreamfeed as a massive inconvenience Why don't you just carry on giving it until he gives it up on his own? Which he will do, eventually!

If you want to drop it I would just offer water instead of milk when he wakes. Hopefully he'll soon learn that it's not worth his bother to wake up!

Same problem with 2+ year old!

The habit of milk overnight has become a real problem. She will cry for hours without, waking up the whole house and possibly the neighbours. I know she needs to go cold turkey, but I can't face the fall out especially DD1 having no sleep (they share a room). Have tried water, but she wants milk.

We gradually reduced the amount and mixed it with water.

my DP suggests bringing the feed forward my 30 mins each night until he no longer realises he is getting a 10.30/11pm feed i.e. gets out of the habit. what do you reckon?

We moved it forwards gradually which worked as it ended up so close to his bedtime milk he didn't want it and that was that.

thanks. i will try that. hate to say it sounds like DP was probably right!
