Anyone else's DC not like books/having books read to them?

DS2 (13 mo) will not sit still and have a book read to him (apart from at bedtime when I lie him on our bed in his grobag and he will sit and listen to a very short book ) If I sit him on my lap to read him a book, he just squirms to get away. If I sit on the floor with him, he just crawls all over the book/me or crawls away.

He loves pulling all the books off the bookshelf (every day ) and will sit surrounded by them and turn a few pages/press a few buttons but then go off and play with something else!!

DS1 was (and still is) the complete opposite - from when he could crawl (7mo) he would crawl to where the books were, pick one and bring it to me to read and then another, and then another..... He would have books read to him for hours and this is the only time he actually sits still for more than a minute

My 2 boys are complete opposites - it never fails to amaze me

Ha ha - my 2 are exactly the same Ceebee!

My ds, now 5, will listen avidly to a story and has done since he was about 5 months old!

My dd is 2.5 and won't concentrate for a second. She constantly interrupts and asks 'What's that?' or 'What's he doing?' and will wander off mid story. I was worried to start with but I realise stories are just not her thing as she is a do-er rather than a listener.
She also had a thing about pulling all the books off the shelf!

Mine were the opposite, DS1 wouldn't sit still at all and was on Peepo Jungle until he was 2! DS2 will happily sit for the Gruffalo (unabridged) at 18 months.

ds went through a phase of this arond the same age i think but it was shortlived and now loves books, i think he just didnt want to sit still at that age. not sure if yours is walking yet? but if he is or is just on the verge of it,sometimes all they want to do is practise the new skill until it's mastered and stuff everything else. it may well not always be like this.

Nouveau you may be right - he is not walking yet but cruising. This morning, he had pulled himself up on a table that had books on and he was quite happy to have a book (that was on there already) read to him whilst he was stood up.

My dd never liked it - people never believed me!! wahooooo she wasn't the only one

DD would never sit still long enough to be read to, would never sit on my lap to look at a book. At her 1 year check up with the HV I was asked if I read to her and had to say "you must be joking"

She is 12 now and went on to practically teach herself to read and in the first term of Year 6 read 72 books (acording to her reading diary) which included the whole set of harry potter 3 times.
