Two year check for the third time

My son had a two year check last year which they had to redo as he was unable to do the little tasks (stacking blocks, making marks on paper, pointing to thigns etc etc). They re did it at two and a half and they were still unhappy with how he did and now he has a third try on wednesday this week, he was three in November last year!.

I am a bit worried about it as I have a feeling he will misbehave again as since last time his behaviour has been worse and he has now developed a stutter when he speaks. Last time he had the check the main problem was trying to get him to listen to the actual questions and sit down. For example she the HV said something like "where is the dolls eye?" and he so he picked up the doll threw it in her face and walked off to look out the window, which is pretty typical of his behaviour day to day.

I am worried about his behaviour and development but to be honest Iamnot sure what to do about it, his older sister is well behaved and doing well and we use the same rewards and punishments with him (reward charts etc all themajor things) but with him it just doesnt have an effect.

If he does badly again how many more times will they redo the test? at thisrate he will still be trying to stack blocks when he starts school!

does anyone have any experience with this? I have been trying to teach him at home but its so hard to get him to do anything I have found it almost impossible!

Have you asked for any other help or have they offered any at all?!!

It is amazing how they keep re doing yours and we never even got one!! Just a questionaire in the post!

They just sent us a questionaire too. I would rather see someone though as it would be so easy for a child to slip under the radar when all they have is a form that you fill in your self at home and post back!

If you are having problems I would take it as an opportunity to discuss how you manage things with him. It sounds like you would appreciate the help?

If you have concerns yourself about his comprehension, speech and play being different from his peers, you should push for a referral to get help and more input from professionals. If you think he is in line with peers, try to note what he can do at home that he is not doing in test.
