2 yr old strange sleep habit...Advice please?!!

My 26 month old is a very good sleeper and always has been, however in the last couple of weeks he started playing a game of 'hiding' under his duvet when we went into him in the morning. He obviously decided that he likes it under there and now he constantly scooches down under his covers. The problem with this is that he then falls asleep under there, overheats, sweats until he is wet through and then wakes up upset about the state he is in. We have tried various methods to stop this from happening, such as removing his duvet and putting him back into a Grobag but he refused point blank to do this. We have also tried him in different types of clothing to keep him cooler and we have just adjusted his covers further down the bed in the feet to foot position to minimise the amount of duvet he can wriggle under but that hasn't made a difference at all! Has anyone experienced anything like this? Any advice or tips and tricks would be gratefully received as checking on him hourly and the changes of bedding/nightwear we are going through every night is starting to get draining.

Get a lighter/low tog duvet?

Can you not sort out the bedding before you go to bed - or maybe let him fall asleep with a sheet or light blanket on top and then when you go to bed put a proper blanket/duvet on top

My dd 2.9 does that she loves it under the duvet and does fall asleep under it. My dh tucks the duvet into the bed which helps, but she is not bothered about falling asleep under really especially as it gets cold at night.

Thanks for the replies. We are using a summer duvet, so we can't really go any lower (tried sheets and cell blankets but he doesn't like them) we are now just dressing him in a short sleeved T-shirt and nappy...after all he's far from cold! We have now tried every option I think possible with arranging the bedding before he gets in and amending the bedding once he's asleep. We even tricked him last night by putting him in a Grobag with the duvet on top and as soon as he was asleep we removed the duvet...but he noticed in the night and wasn't happy at all! Maybe there is no solution and he will get bored of it one day...soon I hope!

DS goes to sleep like this every night, I just go in to him about 20 minutes after her has gone quiet and pull him back out. He never wakes up.
