Be trusted at unsupervised?

In the house i mean.
Do you leave them in rooms alone and are they ok when you do?

(I mean while you are home...DO NOT mean going out and leaving them.)

So it seems that most 6/7 year olds can be left alone to play.

Im having trouble with my ds (6.5)

he has a very destructive steak. I am unable to leave him for more than a few minutes and if any one comes to play, i am on edge the whole time.
I never allow him to go to any one elses house...without me bieng there to supervise as he is the kid that you all describe that you hate. (apart from emptying draws and going through cupbourds he never does this.
sigh.

When you say destructive - what exactly does he do? Is it deliberate damage, and if so what to?

Leave them in rooms alone - errr yes!

Since he was a toddler frankly. Staggered at the idea that you would not tbh, unless child had SN.

They don't do anything terrible tho I do have to intervene if the screams get too shrill

If they have a friend to play and the room is in a mess (playmobil, dress up) then I tell them to tidy up.

ds1 is 7y3m, I have been leaving him in rooms unsupervised since he was 3y4m (when ds2 was born) and probably before.

He wouldn't do anything destructive on purpose unless he had sent up to his room (in which case I don't leave him there for long - but it is then stuff like flinging his duvet on the floor, and he had to sort it out).

Friends play in his room with him, and ds knows that he has to tidy up after they go - so generally ensures that things don't get too bad. I also give them 15 min warning, and he will ensure that they all tidy up.
