At what age might they learn not to throw their food?

DD only 11 months, but throws food all the time. I am sure this will continue for a long time, but are we talking weeks, months, years?

Thanks!!!

My DD was a complete NIGHTMARE for this. She stopped throwing most of her food (and plates, bowls etc!!) at about 22 months.

She still drops the odd thing on the floor, but it's only if she doesn't want to eat it.

Sorry - seems like a long time away for you

Gah! She has a surprising range already, I can only imagine that will get worse.

Do you tell her off for it?

DS is 21 months and still doing this and it's driving me mad! I had let it go until recently but am now starting to tell him off as tired of spending every meal time on my hands and knees cleaning up under him. A few times he has been so kind as to empty a plate of something over my head whilst I've been down there or to grasp my hair with yogurt covered hands.

My DH is 50 and he still does it

Imisssleeping · 02/01/2010 20:47

mmm my ds (18 months) throws everything.
food, things down the loo, loves throwing things down the stairs, in the bath, out of the bath, presents from father christmas were chucked on the floor immediately!

i just think bloody hope he'll grow out of it!

My dd is 3 in a month and still does it occasionally.
I get very frustrated too.
What does get me mad is when she has finished eating or had enough, she will throw plate dish spoon or whatever on the floor.
DS 16 month has started to copy.

yep, my ds age 3.2 still occassionally does it, and I dont make a big deal about it, i just say very firmly, 'no, we don't throw our food'. hes gotten MUCH better.

AvrilH · 04/01/2010 13:30

so it looks like we are talking years

damn it

I've also had yoghurt covered hands pulling my hair and food or water dropped down my neck...

I think they learn quite early on but the choose for considerably longer!

My DD (2.3) doesn't throw her food at all unless she's being a little madam. Which is not that rare, sadly.
