Puberty - any great books out there?

My DD1 is almost ten and has just started developing boobs. I started my periods very young and I suspect that she might follow in my footsteps, bless her. I wasn't told about periods and thought that I was dying when mine started, so I am determined that DD1 will be clued up.

We had a chat yesterday which went well and I would like to reinforce it with a book. However, the ones I saw yesterday seemed to be more suitable for teens. Can anyone recommend a pre-teen book on puberty, please?

Have you Started Yet? has been around for years - I had it and I bought a copy (updated!) for DD1 when she was 9 or 10.

Gives all the facts in a way a 10yo can understand.

That looks perfect, Castille. Thank you!

The Care and Keeping of You is nice and very basic.

Thanks. Looks like another good one.

just bumping this thread for any more ideas as we too need a book about puberty for a rapidly growing up 9 year old...

Lets Talk About Sex is a good one for pre-teens, though it covers sex education in general, not just puberty.

Hi, am trying a find a book for my 10yr old very shy son, I want a book that will cover all the usual body changes that he can dip in and out of when he needs. General sex education i can cover. Can anyone help?

Not a sex education book per se, but "Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret" by Judy Blume is a frank, humourous novel covering puberty and other pre-teen issues. It has been a favourite of girls for a long time (I'm 33 and remember it fondly, I found it a lot easier to relate to than talking to mom or reading a sex ed textbook!)
