Early Riser!

Hi All. Would love some opinions and advice on my YS sleep pattern. From he was born,he has gone to sleep no problem at 8pm.But he wakes so early. He is now 2yrs9mths.Very happy little boy.Wakes at 5am everyday,up by 5.15,as he will start shouting and wake ES up-even though they sleep in separate rooms. He is pretty much full of beans from then on.He gets tired late morning, and gets one hour nap at lunchtime. He would sleep for a lot longer if I left him,but I refuse to let him sleep all afternoon when he gets up so early! He has started to go without that nap some days, and he does not sleep one minute longer the next morning.Recently was at Christmas party, didn't get to bed until 8.45-so tired! Woke at 5!I have tried Dozal, waking him up at 4 with Nurofen and milk, leaving door open, lamps on,total darkness...I'm thinking of going back to work, but I am so knackered all the time! How do I know if he is just an early riser, and I have to put up with it? Or is it a habit I can break, and if so how?All advice greatly appreciated,Woopsidaisy.

The following seems to generally work for my DS (not always!): drop the lunchtime nap, he will get cranky at teatime, but persevere! Lots of busy/outside activity in the afternoon to wear him out. Quiet time after tea, then bath, stories and bed.

Ours was an early riser, often 5.30am for a lot of his first 18mths! We had some late nghts recently with our DS and he still woke early! But getting back into the routine helped him get his sleep back. Ideally, I think they need to be asleep by 7.30pm.

You can get a bunny clock that's ears pop up when its time to get up, which I think around this age they might start to understand??! I was contemplating getting one but my DS seems to generally not wake as early now so I havent got one.

I wish you all the luck as sleep deprevation is just awful. I don't think there is a magic cure as some just seem to wake earlier than others, but it's worth trying everything to see what might work for you.

My ds wakes early every day. Usually for a poo at about 5.30ish. Now dd shares with him she's woken up too. She used to sleep for at least an hour longer.

We have blackout blinds, bunny clocks, reward charts, all sorts. He is 6 so doesn't nap anymore .

This is just the way he is and until he is a teenager I don't think it will change.

He goes to bed at 7- 7.30, if we make it later he still wakes then. And I'd rather they were in bed sooner rather than later.

don't buy the bunny clock it is rubbish - i had both the pop up one (dd quickly worked out how to wake the bunny, plus it was so inaccurate with the alarm time it was pointless).
then i got the kidsleep one with the half that lights up. was better but broke within a couple of months. guarantee is only for 30 days, dreadful for the price.

then i got this one groclock and it has been amazing. my DDs were both 5am girls and now DD1 regularly sleeps til 7.20. (has taken about 4 months to shift her on)
