Nap Problems

Hello - am feeling really worried about DD's afternoon nap. She has gone from sleeping for 2 hours to just wanting 30 minutes. As she has recently started to sleep throught (7 pm until about 6.30am) I thought she may not need as much sleep but if the just has 30 minutes she is grumpy all afternoon and really tired.
I have tried to let her go back to sleep after she wakes up but today she carried on crying until the end of the nap. I was absolutely distraught and not sure what to do next, especially as I am worried that her night sleep will also start to deteriorate. Has anyone experienced these problems? I am feeling really down and feel very lonely and isolated - would really appreciate some friendly word of advice/support.

how old is she? My DS stopped his naps at age 2 - was okay till about 3.30/4ish then very grumpy. But I kept with it, not letting him nap until bed time as if he did he wouldn't go to sleep till 9pm! It was a phase which lasted a couple of months, but then he wasn't so grumpy. Hope that helps.

yep, there are a few of us in the sleep forum with similar nap type issues (and at a similar age). It seems to be a development stage.

My DS has been doing this as well, he's just past 8 months. The biggest problem we have is that he is cruising and keeps falling over when tired (I need a padded house!).

So far, night sleep hasn't really been affected, other than he tends to have to go up 15 minutes earlier - but he still sleeps as well as he did previously.

We have given up trying to get him to sleep, when he looks a bit tired we just put him in the cot or playpen and let him play in there. Eventually he drops to sleep (sometimes literally). That does tend to mess up any feeding schedules that you might be using.

Thanks - it's good to know that I am not the only one! Also glad it hasn't affected night sleep. I will check out the sleep forum.
