Why has by sweet little girl turned into a raving lunatic ?

Hi, my daughter will be 5 in march. She is usually very well behaved, although she has her moments as they all do. Recently though, since she's broken up from school, she is being a complete nightmare. She is so hyped up all the time. She does have a cold at the moment which dosn't help. We took her shopping yesterday and she was running off all the time. It was so stressful, we had to go home without buying very much at all. Today, we took her to see my Dad, and she was just bouncing off the walls, dispite me trying to play with her toys with her. I didn't get much chance to talk to my Dad. I think it's going to be a very stressful and miserable christmas for me and my husband if this continues. We don't really know what to do about it, as we're not used to it. She goes from laughing to crying in an instant too.
I just wondered if any of you had any advice to calm her down, before I end up going mad?

a bit out of my sphere, but I didn't want you to go unanswered - try giving her some Rescue remedy, see if that helps.

Could you put aside two or three days to just stay home and do nothing?

I found with my ds at this age that at the end of each term, he was really exhausted, and he would get hyper as a result. My ds has some SEN and if I remember rightly your DD has a speech delay? I think any child with extra needs finds school that bit more exhausting. They have to work harder to be understood/produce work and it is alot for little 4 year old bodies

Try and let her just play, or watch DVD's, have some bubble baths, just generally wind down. And for those 3 days try to keep the sugary foods at a minimum!

This used to help with ds, anyway

Thank you, yes she has a speech disorder and she is one year behind developmentaly.
She has had a lot of songs and things things to remember for the school plays, charol singing and through stagecoach. She probubly is exhausted come to think of it.
She's had an early night tonight, and tomorrow, we'll have a cosy day at home. She is always well behaved at home, when it's just us.

What is Resque Remedy, and where can you buy it from?
It might come in handy when we visit friends over christmas.

Rescue remedy is a herbal thing, any chemist should have it

Check it's ok for kids though

Personally, I would opt for a mug of warm milk in preference to Rescue Remedy for a 4 year old, but that's a purely personal preference
