My DD is four in a week. She still does all her 'stuff' in her potty. I know she wees in the low level loos at preschool but refuses to poo in those. She will also wee in public loos if I lift her onto the seat. She just seems a little small to use a toilet but then again she seems much too big for her potty. But she will ONLY poo in her potty even though...sorry to be gross ..but her bum gets covered in poo because she's too big for the potty now. When's it time to get rid of the potty and can anyone recommend something that would help her use the toilet?

Get her a toilet seat inset and stool to make it easy to get to the toilet.

She will eventually give up the potty on her own accord. You don't get many adults who use potties.

Sorry I meant toilet seat insert. Get a plastic one that is easy to clean. You can get one from Wilkinsons, Boots or mothercare or anyway that sells baby stuff.

I got rid of ours when ds was about 3.6 and I got fed up of him getting his bum wedged in it then standing up (with potty still attached) and tipping the contents all over the floor! He actually got on with the toilet better when we tried without a toddler seat but then he is a boy and tended to wee over the top of those. He was reluctant at first but liked the idea of being grown up.

Got rid of it as soon as humanly possible. The insert seat from WIlkinson costs a quid, is a single piece of plastic (so very easy to keep clean) and can be dropped onto the toilet seat by a child of 3 very easily.

We got rid of the potty on day 3 with our 3 year old. I didn't want him getting too used to it and being scared of the loo.

we went cold turkey at 2.5yrs as ds started nursery when I went back to work. He'd always used a potty and struggled with small loos, think he just liked his potty/was what he was used to, he was trained at 20 months and my childminder at the time didn't have a downstairs loo so had potty in corner in hall. He had lots of accidents when he started nursery so best way to help him through it was just to get rid of potty and get him using toilet, was quite stressful for few weeks - lots more accidents which made him very upset but he quite quickly adapted - only alternative was nappies which he flatly refused to do.

We have one of the padded seats with handles from mothercare but he only using that for poos and I tend to help him off so he doesn't wee over top, he's 3 now. If I had dd I'd get a stool and get her to hang her bum in like they do on the littler toilets, I do think the seats them selves are hard to get to to.
