Boisterous Toddler - saying no a hundred times a day

Please help if you can. My toddler is 2.4 yrs old and is so boisterous. He runs into people and other children, kicks things, and is very destructive about 40% of the time. (He is not always and he can be so loving and cute). Today, it felt like everything he did, I said no to. I just don't know what to do. I do lots of positive praise and I spend time playing with him - but it's almost like an impulse to him. I don't believe he even thinks about the things he does.

Any help, tips or suggestions??

of course he doesn't think about the things he does, he's 2.4! they don't really have impulse control at that age. they want to do something and they do it, in general.

i have "no" days too, we all do i think, but you could try finding alternatives to saying "no".
we have a lot of "let's not do that ds2" and "don't throw ds2" and "give mummy the cup now ds2" etc etc etc

They are all like that aren't they??! My ds is 2.4 and is exactly as you describe. Very funny, chats all day long but he never stops moving and grabbing at things he shouldn't. Very boistrous and certainly does not think about what he's doing... I assume it's normal particularly for little boys.

My DS also 2.4 sounds very similar - most little boys are, I think! Distraction is probably the best policy, and as you have said lots of positive praise (not always easy!) and spending time playing. All children of this age are impulsive - they just don't retain right and wrong for long enough, and even if they do have an idea of what they shouldn't do, the desire just overtakes them!
