Age of name recognition

I have read somewhere (can't remember where now, though...) that babies should start to "recognise" their own names around 3 months. Does this sound about right, as I was surprised at it being this early? Presumably it's a certain reaction to the sound, rather than understanding the concept of a name.

And, what's the best way to ensure that the baby does get the message? I'm repeating DD's name to her lots during out little chats, but is there anything else we should be doing?

DD is only 9 weeks, so I'm not worrying, just interested.

Thanks.

I've got a speech and language leaflet from our local PCT and that says 6 months to recognise their name. HTH

Thanks, JetLi - that sounds more credible to me, although I know very little about babies (we're learning as we go)
