10 wk old crying won't stop

Help!? My 10wk old baby won't stop crying. She writhes constantly as though she has stomach cramps. She was diagnosed with thrush which was treated. I took her to a Cranio-osteopath 5 times and was told to add probiotic powder to her milk to aid her digestive system. She slept through the night after her final treatment but then caught a virus from my 2.5yr old! She is now into her 2nd wk of a horrible barking cough that makes her vomit. Have taken her to the docs 3 times, A&E and health visitor. All say she is an unsettled but not an unwell baby and that a virus can't be treated. Took her back to docs yesterday and have her on Gaviscon. The only way she will sleep at all is to lay her on her front, which I know you're not supposed to do but she's now been asleep for first time for 30mins in her cot and is sound asleep (I have been checking to make sure she's ok!). Is anyone experiencing my probs? My toddler is in his 4th wk of coughing badly, especially at night. He's started having tantrums, even at 2am so I'm starting to struggle a bit here!!!

Oh dear. don't know anything about cranial osteopaths. But have you tried

thorough winding
taking out for walk in pushchair or drive in car
some people swear by a sling

sounds a bit like colic to me, DD1 had it and it was hell. we tried infacol which didn't do much. she grew out of it quite quickly though.

If she has a virus though hopefully things will improve when she gets better.

Sorry that's probably not much help.

Thank you. Yes tried winding. Don't really want to start driving in middle of night but even day time driving hasn't helped much and yes I've got a sling . Hopefully the Gaviscon will kick in.

Do you have an OH to help out at night?

We took it in turns one downstairs with screaming baby while the other slept upstairs.

Sorry that's all I can think of they do grow out of it though, promise

I hope someone with some better ideas comes along...

Not surprised you are struggling. This sounds like a nightmare.

The only other thing I can think of is sleeping with her. When DD (now 6 months) is poorly she settles quicker if I am next to her to soothe her. For your toddler, if he's snuffly, you could try VapoRub, otherwise, hell as this sounds, it will pass. (Repeat to self....)

Lots of sympathy, DS had whooping cough recently, so I do feel for you.

Thank you both for your comments. I've dropped the Gaviscon as it made her constipated! The coughing has really eased off, thank god but she's still very unsettled and writhes constantly..Her first immunisations are tomorrow, great Am using Infacol now and yes, she's sleeping on my chest at night as last resort when I can't settle her, usually around 2am. OH is busy settling toddler who wakes when baby starts crying. I'm sure it'll pass too.. here's hoping before Xmas!!!

Get one of the sensor mat monitors and let her sleep on her tummy.

My baby is 11 weeks and is just getting over her cough that made her horribly sick. I didn't go to a doc or health visitor as I was told by my Mum and a friend that the sick (which scared me silly, my DD1 was never sick like that) is just her way of getting the mucus out.
Is she getting enough sleep? I think my dd needed more in the last week. A good position for my DD when awake and upset/squirmy is/was sitting on my lap leaning forward as I pat her back. Her head kind of flops forward, but she's comfy. She spent a lot of time over my shoulder last week too.
I actually only gave my dd a bit of calpol once last week when she was really crying at bedtime, but I think she was only crying cos she needed to sleep so much and the coughing was stopping her. In the end I just left her and within 10 mins she was asleep - may sound cruel, but I was listening to make sure she was OK and I knew that I'd tried everything else.
If I was you I would skip the immunisations til she's better.
My DD is still a bit coughy and snotty, but the sickness has gone, so hopefully your dd will be on the mend soon too.
