Your tips for keeping a duvet on a wriggly 3yo desperately needed!

3yo ds is waking repeatedly through the night without his duvet on - assume the cold is waking him as he happily goes straight back to sleep when the duvet is replaced.

He is already in a furry sleepsuit type thing, which did reduce the waking a bit to start with, but is obviously not warm enough... We have also tried putting his duvet on horizontally and tucking it in round the edge of the bed, and putting him inside a second duvet cover to make a sort of sleeping bag, but he crawls out and often ends up on top of the duvet facing the opposite direction.

We have a five month old dd who is mostly sleeping through (for now!) but we are still up 4 or 5 times a night for ds to put the sodding duvet back on! Am getting desperate - anyone have any brilliant ideas?

A gro-bag?

MegBusset · 09/12/2009 21:36

I think the Grobag people do a duvet that zips up at the side?

ministryofsleep · 09/12/2009 21:37

teach him during the day how to pull the duvet back over himself when in bed - we did this with DS1 who is also a wriggler (3.11), now if he wakes up cold during the night he can pull the duvet back over and go back to sleep himself. Also found using a sheet or thin blanket under the duvet to tuck him in helped keep the duvet on the bed. HTH

King size duvet. So damn big that he can't throw it off. Seriously, it's what our 3 year old has now, on his single bed.

Bunkups33 · 09/12/2009 21:39

We just tuck a blanket over the bottom half of the duvet. Tuck it in firmly and it keeps the duvet on.

LiegeAndLief · 09/12/2009 21:39

Thanks for that, yes, a grobag was going to be my last resort - I think I remember from the website they do them up to age 10? Really hope ds is keeping the duvet on by then or we will be bankrupt!

I must type very slowly! Thanks so much for all the ideas, will definitely give double duvet and blanket a try.

Teach him to pull the duvet back himself? We have been going through this with 2.9yr DD recently, and have been doing some playing getting into bed and pulling the covers up. Having said that, she happily does it in a play situation, but it does seem to be something else altogether at night - so I feel your pain

These might help. duvet grippers

MistletoeNoelPresents · 09/12/2009 21:46

Yes, they do a 3-6yr and a 6-10yr so not as pricey as you might guess.

nigglewiggle · 09/12/2009 21:48

I second the blanket over bottom of duvet as an anchor.

LiegeAndLief · 09/12/2009 21:52

Ds is similar to your dd Lionstar, he is very capable of getting under the duvet when playing hide and seek but seemingly at a loss in the middle of the night! Duvet grippers look like a genius idea...

I 2nd double duvet.

Do NOT bother with duvet grip things, they are useless! (There was a previous thread about them and i tried them with DS2)

LiegeAndLief · 09/12/2009 21:59

Ah ok maybe not so genius! Just been on grobag site and seen the stay-on duvet bedding sets - any one tried them? Very expensive though.
