She's never been a great sleeper and we co-slept till she was about 18 months. She occasionally sleeps through but more usually wakes two or three times. Generally she wakes crying and recently I've noticed some cold night sweats. She's had chicken pox so I thought it might be the virus exiting... but doc today said possibly nightmares, so it got me thinking maybe it's odd she wakes crying and now I'm a bit concerned she's having bad dreams. I've asked her but she says no.

Mine (3) usually cries when she wakes up - not because she's upset, it's simply to alert mummy & daddy and she stops as soon as we enter the room. Definitley still cried at 2 and I'm pretty sure she started having the odd nightmare around then.

Either way it sounds pretty normal to me.

DS (almost 2) has never woken without crying. He cries when he wakes from his nap, and cries every time he wakes through the night and when he wakes for the day. He even cries when he wakes in our bed after we give in and co-sleep. There is something about waking up that he doesn't enjoy!

normal normal normal. don't worry

I'd say normal too. I hate waking up myself! These days it's because of lack of sleep but I faintly remember the days when I'd have too much and would feel terrible and fuzzy, it's a fine line.

My DD always cried upon waking and it was horrible for me as my Mum was always saying it was a sign of an unhappy child (cheers Mum) but she wasn't at all.

Thanks everyone, that's really reassuring. I had assumed normal then got to thinking, as you do, well what if it's not? Will revert to not worrying about this.
