8 month old biting. How to stop it?

My DS is almost 8 months old & has developed a really bad habit of biting people. He sometimes bites when BF, but not so much now since he learnt that that means the milk gets taken away. He still bites very frequently at other times, though. If you're holding him, he'll bite your shoulder, or he'll pull himself up to bite your knees, etc. Anything that he can get near his mouth is fair game. He has 8 teeth with more coming through, so it's very painful & obviously a habit that we want to discourage as much as possible.

Are there any techniques that might work?

I think that you could start moving away from him if he comes at you with teeth bared, or putting him on the floor

Have you tried saying a firm 'no' and placing him on the floor for 10 seconds or so and look away. Then pick him up again. Repeat each time he does it.

Lots of teething gel and teething rings. This isn't bad behaviour its teething IMHO.

springy it does sound like teething.

Very about the pulling himself up mind.

Sorry for not replying sooner - got sucked into weekend things.

I thought it might be teething, but he finds it funny when we say 'ow' & pull away, like it's some sort of game. We've tried saying the firm 'no', but not the putting him down. That'll be the next step, then.

It's hard to tell when he's going to bite. Sometimes it's more likely than others (when he's tired & grizzly), but sometimes it's just totally out of the blue. It's very difficult to pre-empt.

& Tigga, it's nothing to be of - it's a complete nightmare!
