DS has just turned one. Suddenly he refuses all the food he used to like/love.
No more purees, no more pieces of meat or fruits, no more veg at all. Even when presented with a biscuit he doesnt want it.
Im going to weight him tomorrow morning see how much weight he has lost in two weeks.

The only thing he eats without too much fuss are: yogurts (no bits) and oranges. He still has a bottle of formula at night.
if we force him, he may have a tiny piece of ham or steak or bread or pear and thats it.
no banana, no chocolate (cow) milk, no biscuits, no raisins, no brocoli, no potatoes, etc...
Even his favorite brand of baby food doesnt get finished (if eaten at all)

I have suppressed all the snacks in the hope he'll be more hungry at meal times but it is not working.
He doesnt cry after me to say he is hungry like he used to either. he used to eat everything.

Is that normal? or should I see the GP?
Apart from that he seems ok, full of energy etc..

Teeth, probably. It will pass.

They quite often do this - it drives you demented. Or it can be because they are sick (generally they get over things on their own but there is a disease going round at the minute called respiratory syncytial virus (well it's not new it's always going round but is more prevalent) which presents as a general cold but with a complete loss of appetite.

If he's not showing any signs of illness or teething, by all means go to the GP but chances are it'll pass in a few days.

Try not to worry, DD went weeks on just milk when she was feeling horrible after a virus. Didn't make one iota of difference to her weight, growth or development.

likely to be teething, am sure he'll be fine.

teething? really?
or illness?

mmmhhh... i'll wait another week and if no progress i'll go to the gp.

Our DS has just been through the exact same thing, he hasn't eaten much apart from yogurts for over a week. Childminder said not to worry as he is teething really bad and also has a horrendous cold.
He only started eating pureed vegetables yesterday, after putting some on his lips to get his to taste it.
His bottom teeth are digging in behind his top teeth, so it must be agony for him :-(
As long as they are having fluids they are fine, but we did switch back to C & G 1 year old milk to make sure he was getting as much supplements? as possible.
On the plus DS was fine in himself, just not eating

My DD (15mo) did this a couple of months ago and after a week of angst on my part, we worked out that she simply didn't want to be fed - she wanted to do it herself. So I've given her a spoon and let her get on with it (and shuddered at the mess she's making!)

yoghurts oranges and formula! the kids not starving

tostaky · 04/12/2009 16:59

piffPaff i let him feed himself too as he prefers it but we went succesful at lunch... only had half a carott, 5 tiny tiny bits of steak and 1/4 of an orange

burtie It has been 2 weeks already and he has lost about 1.5 pound.. he is teething too, so maybe that is that... we'll see
but i cant stay here doing nothing and watch him losing weight...if by next friday it isnt better i'll go to the GP just to rule out any medical problems...

my ds lived off yoghurts for 20 days once his teeth popped through he eat everything in sight again.

it is heartbreaking when they wont eat but it does pass.
