Therapy/CBT for anxious children, any advice or stories?

DD (a youngish 11 yo) was assessed today to start therapy for anxiety and suicidal thoughts. She will probably be getting CBT type therapy, has anyone any experience? The team seem to think about 5 weeks would be enough as it's a specific thing bothering her.

Any help or advice would be gratefully received.

TIA

It can be very good for specific things and will give her some tools to cope with other situations as they crop up.

However its success depends on who is delivering it and the nature of the issues-if they are very deep-seated/chronic then a 5-week course of CBT is not going to be the answer.

If you are in the UK there are lots of organisations that offer ongoing counselling to children using other approaches. They often only kick in from age 12 but prior to this theplace2be charity offer counselling in schools.

Good luck with all of this.

Thanks Pixi, I was just saying to Dh I wasn't sure what to make of her. But DD seemed ok. I know someone who knows a couple of private therapists, if it doesn't work out I'll definitely change.
