18month old issues!

Hi all, hope this works as new to mumsnet so hi!!

iv got a son of nearly 18months and a daughter of nearly 5months.

my 18month has always had a temper on him but just lately has started tantruming, i know this is something most toddlers go through at some point but he screams in my face, tries to hit me and his sister. iv tried ignoring him, but i think this lets him think he can get away with it, iv tried getting down on hs level and sternly telling him no. this enrages him more and continues screaming for about an hour regardless of what i do,

once he has been told off once he appears to go on a 'wrecking spree' trying to do as many naughty things as humanly possible!

also, he is refusing to eat. he hates foods with lumps in, but iv been refusing to puree his food lately and only mashing it. iv been trying to not make a big issue and after a few tries just taking the food away and not offering anything apart from his drinks until the next meal. im really not sure what to do. any advice would be fantastic.

hello and welcome to MN

your toddler has learnt that screaming is a perfect way to get your attention, clever chap !

Ignoring IS the way to go, you are right

Ignore distract and praise where you can

(I shan't tell you about 3 year olds )

wrt food, again, don't turn into a battle; let him pick it up with his fingers or a spoon

good luck

Hi, I have an almost 18 month old and a 4 month old.

DS is just getting into the tantrumming phase and I'm struggling to know what's real and what tantrum!!

I can say, though, he tries to bite me.

I have set up 'time out' in a playpen out of sight (but within earshot) for him to go in.

I don't care if HE gets time out now.... I NEED it at times!!

iv tried spoons, forks, finger foods, my food, he just screams!!
