I have had a behaviour management epiphany...

Having one of those days today where I just sound like a stuck record, 'Please put your toys away please put your toys away please put your toys away' ad infinitum.

I have just discovered by complete accident that donning the policeman's helmet from the dressing up box and repeating the same request in a deep male voice achieves immediate compliance without argument (having tried it 3 times today just to make sure it wasn't a one-off fluke)

Now seriously wondering if it is worth investing in a full WPC's outfit? If the novelty of being told off by a policewoman wears off for DD1 I am sure my hubby would quite like it (Might have to drop the 'voice' though)

Being "bad" at work and checking out MN... Nearly spat coffee all over my keyboard at this. Fantastic!

Just to add to this epiphany revelation thing - I recently discovered how to get a 3 year old dressed (because you know, all 3 year olds are allergic to clothes - or is that just mine?)

I put her clothes on her as if, ahem, they are 'eating' her (so socks gobbling up her feet etc) and then after each item is put on, it does a little burp (and then says 'excuse me please').

Works wonders.

(am now deliberating whether or not press 'post message' and have that admission thrown out into the internet forever )

ROFL laughing!!! Will try that tonight and feedback results!!

LOL at telling your dh "Put that away" in a deep voice and wpc uniform

StealthPolarBear · 20/11/2009 15:49

thank you for these tips! Going to try the child related ones straight away
Have a DS who screams like he's being beaten when I try to put a jumper on him

Quiltedrose · 20/11/2009 15:54

skiving viking that is a BRILLIANT idea, going to try that as dd1 is currently sat on the sofa in a vest and a ballet skirt and refuses to put any actual clothes on...will report back...

RTL to digress slightly, being 5 months post-birth I am under a bit of pressure to, get back in the saddle, as it were. However I have discovered that actually putting out gets all sorts of things done around the house (for instance, I come downstairs to find that my car has been washed and the child locks put on the cupboard under the sink, and this weekend, I got a lovely bracelet....

What do you reckon doing the do in a policewomans' outfit will score? (It's not illegal is it?) A day at a spa maybe?

OMG IT WORKED!! Sorry I'm shouting but trying to get the 2 LOSs ready for GYmnastics is a PITA with me telling them ot get dressed, are you dressed yet etc about 100 times. However donned an old army beret, slightly chewed by the dog, and siad in a deep voice " Are you little urchins dressed yet" Cue 2 LOS running about giggling, amazing In fact have now got a spare 10 mins beofre I go that is usually spent nagging them to get dressed, hence the post.

Quiltedrose · 22/11/2009 13:46

LoL. Giggling at the 'slightly chewed by the dog' image

Actually I reckon they will do anything ANYONE apart from me tells them. When the policeman's helmet loses its novelty value, I've got a Bob the Builder helmet to try...
