DS nearly 5 having problems at school

My DS does not seems to be settling in at school, he is bright, loving and energetic but is being naughtly a lot, resulting in several trips "to the office". If he doesn't get his own way in class he plays up and kicks other children in assembly and the playground. He seems to have a short attention span, at swimming and gym he is the "challenging one". He is capable but on his terms when he wants to be, otherwise he is just silly, I am getting worried that he will lose friends and get a reputation and I really just don't know what to do about it, any advice will be gratefully received.

What do the school say though? Are they dealing with it all gently and well and doing lots of praise and rewards. tbh am a bit by 'trips to the office' - what on earth's that about if he's only in reception?? fwiw, our school has a sort of time out zone that if they're misbehaving, after a warning they go and sit in quietly for a few minutes. But they're not sent out/ away. That seems a mite extreme to me.

As far as I know, the trips to the office are during play times for 5 minutes contemplation. His teachers are very reassuring but I am concerned that if the breaks are not put on his behaviour he will lose out.

our school goes to headmistress office. they all adore her and she spends alot of time with reception adn yesr 1, so if they are sent, they hate it. ds1 was sent once in reception.
don't worry about it. all sounds normal. could do with a talk on behaviour, how to treat our friends, what to do when we get cross, adn what is acceptable.
might help ?
