Highchair Tantrums - 11 months

Please help!

DD hates sitting in her highchair to eat and is always trying to climb out. Our highchair is adjustable and is on the lowest setting so I don't strap her in. She refuses to sit down and when I make her sit down she has a tantrum. Even when I have strapped her in she has struggled to get out. I have tried toys and even feeding her in front of the TV but nothing seems to help. I want to get this sorted before she goes to a childminder in the New Year.

Put her in and if she is calm get on with the food part, if she is resistant, remove from chair and read a book to self until she is ready. Repeat, repeat, repeat.

Obviosuly include some dialogue in the above, but don't do the more and MORE and MORE attention for poor behaviour thing of trying to entertain her out of it!

i had to do what hobbgoblin says and it did work.

Both my dcs would not have anything to do with a high chair with us, straps or no straps. So we'd put them on our laps instead.

Having said that, both of them would sit nicely at nursery for meals. They don't use high chairs but little chairs that they can get in and out of. Perhaps you could try that instead.

Peer pressure at nursery always meant my dcs bbehaved much better in all areas in nursery than at home (eating, sleeping, self-entertaining). I would not worry about having to socialise your dd for the cm. I suspect your dd will just get on with it there.
