Good counting, word, reading books

From a few months old I've read stories (Gruffalo, Where the Wild Things Are, etc) to my now 13-month old, but am also looking for some learning books to start counting, basic words and so on. There seem to be SO many that I'd thought I'd ask which ones your toddlers took to.

Also in the market for any recommendations for books, such as BabyTalk (although I seem to have gleaned the advice in that book so far from the Internet).

Thanks in advance.

Every child is different, why don't you try your library and if he is really taken by one particular book, you can then buy it?
Mine like the touchy feely ones, the hungry caterpilar, and baby dictonary (any one), and anything with animals or stickers

Oh, already plunder the library on a regular basis, but the counting and words books are nowhere to be found -- too popular.

Thanks.

Maybe just do counting with rhymes and objects. Don't worry about basic words at 13 months. Just choose great books with fantastic pictures. Don't think about 'learning' just go with whatever your baby enjoys. I am a teacher and have seen kids put off books for life with too many educational books foisted on them!
