Help with bottle feeding 5weeks old

(Also posted in Bottle feeding)

DD is 5 weeks old.
From day one we have had nothing but problems with her, and compared to my other daughter now two, I am really struggling.
DD2 started life feeding from me, but we soon moved on to bottle feeding.
She feeds well for the first ounce, and then thrashes around, her face fills with terror, her legs shake, and you cannot get more milk into her until she has either cried herself to sleep and then wakes up, (and the cycle continues), or, until she calms down.

We have seen 4 doctors, and two health visitors, and because she has been putting on weight and checked for tongue tie etc etc they cannot find anything wrong.

She has had antacids, acid suppresents, etc, nothing helps.
She isnt lactose intolerent, and we have tried every teat and bottle under the sun.

My life is feed an ounce, then dd2 scream hysterically until she sleeps, wakes up feeds, and so the cycle continues.

Can anyone help?

reflux? dairy allergy/intolerance?

it is highly unlikely (as you say) to be lactose intolerance as she would then have reacted to your milk too, and it's very rare

more likely to be a cows milk protein intoerlance, in which case a hypoallergenic formula such as neocate or nutrimagen will do the job

Not reflux as neither suppressents or blockers did a thing, nor did Gaviscon. Tried enfamil AR did nothing.

but enfamil AR is still a milk-based formula

something like neocate contains no milk, and nutramigen is a milk-based formula that has been processed to make the proteins digestible by a baby even with a cows miolk protein intolerance (as i understand it)

I would speak to your GP again and ask for 1) a referral to a paediatrician and
2) a script for either nutramigen/neocate to try and see if it makes a difference

Have now been referred to a paediatrician which they said can take 3 weeks for an appt to come through. I am not sure I can cope that long. We did 4 days with Infasoy which made no difference.

Why does she feed ok for a few minutes and then literally go insane afterwards. She is upstairs now with DH completely inconsolable and will be until she is asleep.
