3.5 year old being a pain about his "tickly" socks (seriously!!)

3.5 year old says that the seam by the toes of his socks "tickle" him - I've tried turning them inside out and putting his shoes on that way. This morning we had a full on battle outside nursery with me finally threatening him with no socks at all......

What do I do ! Anyone know of a "seamless" sock that might work !??

We have a battle everytime socks and shoes have to go on - he just seems to find them uncomfortable

What about a tube sock?

Do they do them in smaller sizes?

VinegarTits · 17/11/2009 14:25

Maybe his shoes are too small and the socks rub because of it

pippylongstockings · 17/11/2009 14:38

My DS1 used to be terrible about his socks and he does still prefer them inside out.

Have you read a book 'Raising your spirited child'? There is a chapter in there about getting dressed and how sensitive children can find all sorts of lumps and bumps in clothes.

Wearing crocs seemed to help as they are quite a loose shoe. Plus not rush getting dressed & getting him to choose the socks.

Had this with my 2 dc aswell. I just gave up and had to make sure I got socks that were not tickly. When you shop for socks check the toe inside before buying.
Ds couldn't even wear jeans until he was about 5 because they were 'too hard'! Sensitive creatures, now bordering on teenage years and will wear anything (well if it's to their taste but that's a problem you will get in about 7 to 9 years time!)

ds was like this with everything esp sock seams and labels in clothes. It is one sign of dyspraxia. We boght him a lovely pair of little red kickers when he was about 4 and they are still in the cupboard upstairs He is 15 now!he wold never wear them as he didn't like teh 'feel' but I kept them as so cute

thanks all...."pippylongstockings - might find that book a good idea regardless - he's certainly spirited. I did also wonder about the size of his shoes - I'll check...

Even now I can't wear socks with seams. Drives me mad if I do have to resort to them.
I nannied for a child who was the same and we found sports socks are best as usually no seams. He also couldn't wear t-shirts with sewn on pictures or stiff t-shirts and trousers always had to be loose - basically just like me. Lucky I choose my own clothing now, my mother used to go crazy at the clothing I would not wear.

My DP doesn't like socks with seams, he has dyspraxia and something called Sensory Defensiveness

seeker · 17/11/2009 18:48

No help - but my dd used to throw real wobblies about socks. They always had to be inside out, and some were rejected outright because they were "wiggly". I still have no idea why one pair of socks were wiggly and another pair weren't!

Mine too - he's five. Really boring. He's getting a bit better these days, but it's been a long haul..
